Remembrance 7-11 Nov 22

The whole school focused on remembrance during the week. Each class looked at different stories and completed a range of activities.

Ysgawen

Pupils in Years 5 & 6 read the book Owen and the Stone Soldier.

This book explored remembrance through the eyes of a young boy whose father was killed in the Syrian war.

Pupils looked at what a memorial is, evaluated the Glade at the National Arboretum and how this helps people to remember.

The children designed their own memorial gardens using the symbolism of flowers and thought about the atmosphere they wanted to create in which people could honour others.

Collen

Pupils in Years 3& 4 looked at information texts about the history of remembrance services and war memorials.

They carefully followed instructions to complete 3 dimensional poppies and planes for their class display.

Bedwen

Children in dosbarth Bedwen learned about why we wear poppies. They used different media to show their learning.

On Friday they made their own poppies using natural materials.

Remembrance Service

The whole school joined together at the war memorial in Forden to hold a short memorial service. Pupils in Bedwen left their stick poppies for the community to see.

Members of the School Council joined pupils from other local schools for a service at the memorial garden in Welshpool.
