Definition
Suburbanisation refers to the movement of people, employment and facilities away from the inner city towards outer urban areas which may engulf surrounding villages and towns into a larger urban agglomeration. Suburbanisation is largely due to the introduction of cars which has allowed households to be located throughout Greater Sydney, not just along the train line. Globalisation has lead to a decline in manufacturing in Australia. Unemployment in these industries has allowed people to move away from the inner west and the manufacturing area, leading to suburbanisation throughout Greater Sydney.
Spatial Distribution
The outer urban areas which people, employment and facilities more towards are sporadic and are all located in different places, not necessarily grouped in a certain place. Examples include Chatswood, Hornsby, Parramatta, North Sydney, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Bondi Junction and Oran Park.
