College & Career Advising:

In October, students kicked off the month with attending several virtual college tours from across the country with advisors. During that time, students were able to explore and gain significant insight on college information. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened for the upcoming school year 2023-2024. Sinton ISD hosted it’s first FAFSA Parent Night for High School Seniors, which was a great turnout to kick off the month. During FAFSA Night, parents and students had the opportunity to have one-on-one assistance with financial representatives, from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Del Mar College. Completion of the FAFSA application is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT for high school seniors as per TEA: House Bill 3 (HB 3). For more information on completing the FAFSA, please contact Mrs. Uresti or Ms. Dotson at Sinton High School. Additionally, the senior class of 2023 are at a 100% of college application completion. Great work Seniors! Students will have the opportunity to participate in several college campus tours in the upcoming months. College and career advisors are continuing to provide post-secondary support to students by helping assess both their personal and career goals. We will keep striving to help students become successful with their career pathway transition. GO PIRATES!

Mrs. Dotson and Mrs. Uresti held 2 FAFSA events in October to help parents and students complete their FAFSA applications...a graduation requirement. Thank you, Mrs. Dotson and Mrs. Uresti for your continued efforts in working with our students to get them college and career ready.
A senior drawing for two giveaways was done on Thursday, Nov. 17th. Seniors must have completed one college application and the FAFSA application. Congratulations to Alexis Nino (right pic) and Karina Padilla-Pena (left pic).

Highlights of End of October - November

Dr. McQueen's Physics classes conducted an inquiry based lab on the laws of motion.
Mrs. Ledwig's mathematics students paired up to work out word problems using graphic organizers on chart paper to find similarities, differences, and commonalities.
Mrs. Moreno's Algebra I classes used a little creativity in designing and graphing parabolas to find vertex, foci, and directrix.
So cool and creepy! Dr. Mitchell’s students conducted a wound lab using household items such as Vaseline, toilet paper, cocoa powder, and food coloring to create realistic burns, abrasion, lacerations, puncture wounds and more! This was a great lab to allow the students to really get into the Halloween spirit!
Mr. Alvarez's Art classes were in the Halloween spirit as the students demonstrated their art skills in painting pumpkins and drawing creepy Halloween themed art pieces.
Spanish classes worked diligently on creating Dia de Los Muertos art work.
National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration starts September 15 - October 15. Mrs. Lemos, student aides, and Spanish classes did a fantastic job decorating the library and creating an altar for the Day of the Dead celebration.
Mrs. Cox's Forensics classes conducted a forensics lab to investigate a mystery of which fiber material was involved in the scene of a crime by doing a Fiber Burn Test Analysis. This lab had me staying till the very end to see which fiber was the one in the crime!
Spanish classes had fun creating their Dia de Los Muertos art work and Hispanic Heritage dioramas.
Mrs. Handy's Floral Design classes were in festive mode creating flowered crowns.
The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Choir visited our SHS Choir and performed for them while also providing their input and experiences in answering questions about various programs offered at the university.
With a long trip to Choir's Pre-Area competition in Laredo, the Choir team got to eat lunch and experience a little of Laredo's culture at La India Packaging Inc. the day before the competition. Founded in 1924 by Antonio and Antonia Rodriguez, La India Inc. provides specialty spices, herbs and seasonings and delicious Mexican chocolate, and we usually find their products at our local HEB.
Our Choir students also had an opportunity to visit Laredo Texas A&M International University. We walked the campus and visited their Fine Arts Department, art gallery, and music/practice halls. Students also paused to take a photo with the late J.O. Walker statue, who was a rancher/business man that was denied an education in Louisiana because of wealth and finance but continued to push through life...a reminder that anything is possible. We had 3 students place in the top 8 to attend All-State Auditions at Cuero HS on January 7th! 1st Chair Tenor - Marysol Romero, Junior; 7th Chair Bass - Alex Camacho, Senior; 9th Chair 1st Alternate Bass - Oliver White, Freshman. Congratulations to them and to Mrs. Christner!
November 1st was Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Spanish classes along with Art students celebrated the day by face painting (half their faces).
Students in Floral Design classes put their tricks and skills together to create small treat basket cups for Halloween.
Dr. Mitchell's Health Science classes helped create an eerie appeal in B Hall and put to rest some Medical Myths in this graveyard. R.I.P. Medical Myths

In concluding our Red Ribbon Week, SHS held a student assembly to participate in the TXSayWhat Virtual Summit. This is a program initiative created by the State to inform students about the dangers of drugs, smoking, and vaping. Students ambassadors from various schools in Texas created the Virtual Summit video and was seen throughout Texas during Red Ribbon Week. We had the great opportunity to see our very own senior ambassador, Ella Troup, present to us, to the schools in Texas and around the world on the dangers of tobacco and vaping! This video was put together by Texas students for students and it was well done! THANK YOU, Ella, for representing Sinton and helping to put the word out there world-wide on the dangers of vaping.

OUR VISION

Reminders & info.:

  • Please call SHS for any COVID related issues.
  • Please continue to call the campus when your child will be absent.
  • The most effective way to prevent the spread of germs and staying healthy is to wash our hands. Please continue to encourage your child to wash their hands frequently especially after using the restroom and after eating lunch.
  • Every student should take the TSI college entrance exam (Texas Success Initiative). It is an exam used for college placement that measures college readiness in reading, writing, and math with testing 20-25 items per section. Encourage your child to take this exam even if they decide not to attend college.
  • We need seniors to have 100% completion of FAFSA. We currently have about 25% of seniors that have completed it. Parents of seniors, please help us have 100% completion by encouraging your senior to complete the application and have the parent part completed, as well. Even if you think you or your senior will not qualify, it is the single most important thing you can do to get money for college. It's the gateway to more than $150 billion in college grants, work-study funds, and federal student loans, as well as certain state-based aid.
