Another busy week with lots of amazing writing, fantastic fraction work and some great teamwork. Children in Key Stage 2 also joined a Zoom with the Reebok founder Joe Foster. It was great to hear how he started up his company and there were some wonderful trainer designs from the children.
Housepoints
School life
In Year 3 this week they have been discussing what we can do to help the environment.
They have created a fantastic timeline of how long different plastic products take to decompose. There were some shocking results. A plastic bottle takes a whopping 450 years!
NSPCC Number Day
Next week, on Friday 7th May, we will be taking part in Number Day.
Throughout the day, the children will take part in many exciting maths challenges to raise the profile of maths and continue to embed a ‘can do’ attitude in maths. At Galley Hill, we believe everyone can do maths to the best of their ability.
On Friday 7th May, children can Dress up for Digits, this means they can come to school wearing clothing with a numbers on. E.g. a football shirt, a cap or a onesie!
To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations to be brought into school on the day.
Joe Foster
On Thursday, the children in KS2 joined many other schools around the country (and even some from around the world) to listen to an inspirational talk from the co-founder of Reebok, Joe Foster. His message of dreaming big, going after our goals and having fun along the way was certainly motivating for many of us.

Local elections 6th May
School is to be used for the election of a Councillor for Hutton Ward. The Nursery room will be used, as it usually is, with it being secure from the rest of school. The room will also be thoroughly fogged after use to ensure a thorough clean.
Nursery will still be open for children, they will be using another part of school for the day.
There will be a slightly different pick up at the end of the day and there will be more staff members around to ensure that we continue to make the site as safe as possible.
The school gates will be closed throughout the day for access to the car park, so if you require access to the car park, please phone on the day and let us know and we can make sure that you can access like you normally would (eg blue badge or alternative arrangements). This is to ensure we do not have anyone else driving around the school site.
OPAL
This week we have introduced some music to play times and lunch times. There was some dancing and singing along, which was fantastic to see and hear!
Thank you for your support and all the donations you are sending in.

wraparound
If you require wraparound provision please email wraparound@galleyhillprimary.co.uk to book your place for breakfast and afterschool provision. Please can we ask that you do have a booking, as there have been several occasions where we have had children on a morning without a booking. We try to be as flexible as possible, but booking is essential to ensure we have the correct staffing ratio and food. Thank you.
Finally
Don't forget there will be a little more traffic on Thursday due to the site being used for the local elections. There will be staff to ensure that the site remains Covid Secure and to direct. KS1 and EYFS will be picked up on the KS2 playground, for Thursday only, leaving up the steps where the chickens are. Nursery will still be collected from the main entrance.
Have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend and see you on Tuesday.
