Updates

TSD MLK Day of Service is Back!

The Superintendent's Advisory Board (a special group of high school students) is excited to bring back the Troy tradition of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service in his honor. The entire community is invited to help on Monday, January 16 at Athens as we come together to make a difference!

For those who have not been a part of our MLK Celebration in the past, it may be hard to visualize how cool this event really is. We normally get hundreds of people from across the city to attend. It starts with a breakfast at 8:30am, then a 30-minute program featuring our students (and Roop Raj!) at 9:00 in the auditorium Then the service projects begin. Here is a student produced video from 2019, which explained some of the service projects we did and the impact (note: Some of the service projects have changed for this year . We are not doing care packages for the troops this year, but will revisit that again for next year):

TSD Teacher of the Year Nominations - Now Being Accepted!

We are excited to announce that we are accepting nominations for our 2022-23 OUTSTANDING TROY TEACHER OF THE YEAR! Please consider taking the time to nominate that special teacher who makes a difference in the lives of countless students.

The entire process is online again this year—you will submit everything electronically, using our Outstanding TSD Teacher Nomination form:

All you have to do is fill in the basic information about your nominee, answer four open-ended questions and gather a statement of support from a colleague, a parent and a student. The best entries include heartfelt words—and don’t need to be lengthy.

Again this year, you will just copy and paste the letters of support into the applicable questions on the nomination form (so you can receive them electronically from colleagues, parents or students.) Additional requirements, rules and categories are listed on the nomination form itself.

TWO IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Incomplete nomination forms cannot be considered. Every question must be answered in order to participate in the program (an answer of N/A or a single word is not considered complete.
  • Please be sure each Supporting Statement DOES NOT EXCEED the 500-word limit. Any additional information beyond that cannot be considered.

We have so many wonderful teachers in the Troy School District—please take the time to nominate one or more for our 2022-23 TSD Outstanding Teacher Award. Tell us about a special teacher who goes above and beyond for our students. Sing the praises of that unsung hero working in your building. Take the time to recognize a colleague or mentor who does so much for those around us.

Deadline this year is Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 5p.m.—since everything is done online, you will not be able to submit after that time. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Birmingham at kbirmingham@troy.k12.mi.us.

Thank you so much for your willingness to nominate one of our fabulous teachers!
