Llansannor & Llanharry C/W Primary School

February 11th 2022

We seem to have reached the peak of COVID cases at Llansannor and we are very welcoming of sunnier, longer days.

As always, the children remain focussed and committed to learning despite the challenges we have faced. We are so proud of them.

I hope that the half term will bring a much needed break and you, and your families, are able to enjoy the holiday together.

Love and Prayers,

Mrs Davies

COVID-19.

From Friday 28th January, self isolation period changes from seven to five full days and two consecutive negative lateral flow tests must be taken on days five and six of the isolation period. This applies only to fully vaccinated adults and primary school children. Please follow any advice given to you by Track and Trace as to how long you should remain at home.

Please continue to remain vigilant for COVID symptoms and keep up to date with the most recent Welsh Government Guidelines.

You should remain vigilant for new symptoms, and try to avoid contact with vulnerable family and friends in the short-term (e.g. elderly relatives or those who are higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection).

Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have any COVID symptoms;

a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child has any of these symptoms then they must be kept at home and take a PCR test.

Children under 5 are no longer required to have a PCR test unless requested by the GP. We ask that you keep your child home until symptoms subside.

Please also be vigilant for the wider symptoms of COVID. These are: fatigue, myalgia, sore throat, headache, sneezing, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

If your child experiences any of these symptoms, we strongly recommend that they undertake a PCR test.

Please note that if your child is under the age of 5 years old they should not take COVID-19 tests unless directed to do so by a doctor or if you believe a test is absolutely necessary and in the best interests of your child. They should however remain off school if they have a high temperature until it returns to normal and they feel better.

If any member of your household has tested positive for COVID-19, we also recommend that children 5 and over should take a daily lateral flow test every day for seven days. This should start on the day a member of your household is confirmed positive from a lateral flow or PCR test result.

Face coverings will now be required while on school site and WILL be statutory while on school site. Please ensure that you are wearing a face covering if you are on the yard, or if you are exiting your car to help with a child into their seat. Parents are asked to make an appointment if they need to speak to a teacher face to face. The most effective way of communicating with staff is to send an email to LlansannorPS@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk where messages can be passed on to the relevant person.

School staff are now strongly advised to wear a face covering while inside the school building in communal areas and inside the classroom.

Current recommendation is that rooms should be 'well-ventilated'. While staff monitor the room temperature and battle between thermal comfort and ventilation, please be advised it is colder than usual. Please ensure your child is wearing layers to keep them as warm as possible.

We will continue to have an enhanced cleaning schedule, with frequently touched surfaces being sanitised regularly. Pupils, and staff, will be continuing to wash their hands regularly to reduce the spread of germs.

A thorough risk assessment has been completed and submitted by the LA.

Please can you ensure that you follow the latest government guidelines to reduce transmission.

PTA Film Afternoon

On 18th February, the last day of the half term, the PTA are organising a fundraising Film Afternoon. This will take place in school during the afternoon (or the morning for morning nursery).

Children will be given a sweet cone to enjoy while watching the film. Please pay £2.50 on ParentPay. All donations raised will go straight back to the children.

Thank you to the PTA who continue to work hard 'behind the scenes' to ensure the fundraising continues.

We have a number of events planned in the next few months but are waiting to see what restrictions are in place before we finalise these.

Courage

''If you have the Courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.''

A prayer to share

Loving God

Our adventurous Creator,

Give us courage to choose the path before us,

Risking disappointment to find joy,

Risking failure to be creative,

Risking rejection so that we might love,

Risking stumbling so that we might climb,

Risking the journey for the sake of the homecoming.

We ask this in the name of Jesus,

Who risked living and dying for love of us.

Amen.

Winter of Wellbeing

As you may be aware, Welsh Government have allocated £5.9M to schools across Wales under the new Winter of Wellbeing Grant. This is to support schools to provide additional opportunities for learners to play and engage in social, cultural and physical activities and experiences outside of formal learning in order to provide more opportunities for young people to develop social, emotional and physical well-being.

We have a range of activities planned that have been funded with this grant, the first of which was a visit from the birds!

@FalconaryUK brought a range of animals and we learnt lots about the way they live and how they survive.

Big thank you to Mr Pearce and Mr Morris for organising this wonderful event.

Pel-droed.

Da iawn to our school Football Team who took part in the Urdd Competition this week. They played with determination and resilience despite tough opponents.

Diolch Mr Morris for organising.
