ITAIPU Binacional es líder mundial en la producción de energía limpia y renovable. Es una empresa perteneciente al Paraguay y al Brasil implantada sobre la base del tratado celebrado el 26 de abril de 1973, para realizar “el aprovechamiento hidroeléctrico de los recursos hidráulicos del Río Paraná”. La Potencia instalada en la Central es de 14.000 MW (Mega vatios) con 20 Unidades Generadoras de 700 MWh cada una. La energía producida por el aprovechamiento de la Central es dividida en partes iguales entre ambos países. Se encuentra en la ciudad de Hernandarias, a 14 kilómetros, aguas arriba del Puente de la Amistad (que une a Paraguay y Brasil), sobre el río Paraná.

Hydroelectric Power Plant
ITAIPU Binational is a world leader in the production of clean and renewable energy. It is a company belonging to Paraguay and Brazil, established on the basis of the treaty signed on April 26, 1973, to carry out "the hydroelectric use of the hydrics resources of the Paraná River." The Power installed in the Plant is 14,000 MW (Megawatts) with 20 Generating Units of 700 MWh each. The energy produced by the Power Plant is divided equally between both countries. It is located in the city of Hernandarias, 14 kilometers upstream from the Friendship Bridge (which connects Paraguay and Brazil), on the Paraná River.
Touristic visit: On the touristics visits, during the tour you can appreciate the entire structure of the dam and contemplate the lake.
Es el punto de partida para el recorrido por la Central Hidroeléctrica. Allí, una vez registrado, el visitante es invitado a observar un documental explicativo sobre la ITAIPU, para luego ser conducido a abordar el bus, para iniciar el itinerario que corresponde a la visita turística, acompañado de un guía. Además, en el lugar se brindan las orientaciones para visitar los otros lugares que forman parte de los atractivos del Complejo Turístico ITAIPU.
Visitors Reception Center
It´s the starting point for the tour of the Hydroelectric Power Plant. Once registered, the visitor is invited to watch a documentary about ITAIPU, and then be taken to board the bus, to start the touristic visit, accompanied by a guide. In addition, the place provides information to visit other places that are part of the ITAIPU Touristic Complex.

Main Lookout
The external tour through the dam includes an official stop at the lookout, where you have a panoramic view of the dam and a close-up of the ITAIPU spillway.
Con 1 Kilómetro de longitud, la presa principal de la Central Hidroeléctrica, luce imponente, ostentando la uniformidad de las tuberías de presión, de 10 metros y medio de diámetro cada uno, por donde pasan 700.000 litros de agua por segundo.
Main Dam
With 1 km. In length, the main dam of the Hydroelectric Power Plant, looks imposing, showing the uniformity of the pressure pipes, of 10 meters and a half in diameter each, where pass 700,000 liters of water per second.
Contemplar esta presa, formada por rocas, que va perdiéndose en el horizonte, es otro punto icónico del recorrido. Las rocas que cubren esta presa fueron extraídas del canal de desvío y clasificadas para este gran muro.
Dam of rocks
Contemplating this dam, formed by rocks, which is being lost on the horizon, is another iconic point of the tour. The rocks that cover this dam were extracted from the diversion channel and classified for this great wall.
Materia prima de la represa, llega a una longitud de 170 km. Durante el llenado del embalse, fue puesta en marcha una operación de rescate de animales del lugar, denominada Mymba Kuéra, para que las especies, que poblaban ese territorio, fueran trasladadas a los refugios colindantes, creados específicamente para los fines de recuperación y preservación de la fauna y flora local.
ITAIPU Lake
Raw material of the dam, reaches a length of 170km. During the filling of the reservoir, a rescue operation of local animals, called Mymbá Kuéra, was launched so that the species that populated this territory were transferred to the adjacent shelters, created specifically for the purposes of recovery and preservation of the local fauna and flora.
