With a background in Marine Biology and Molecular Biology, Joy combines her scientific curiosity with a deep love for wine in an effort to express the best of Virginia and the best of the fruit harvested each season. What is in each bottle reflects her respect for the work done in the vineyard, a commitment to established techniques, a ongoing desire to create and explore, and a true personal appreciation for the wonder and beauty of wine.
In collaboration with Spirit Lab Distilling (also located in Charlottesville, Virginia), Joy makes wine from local vineyards that is earmarked to be distilled into brandy. This is then aged in oak barrels produced from trees grown in Virginia. Produced in limited volume each year, this hyperlocal product is another authentic expression of our place and our abiding love for that place.
