Where I am at...
I currently teach computer science and some graphic design in a school in Western Australia. The aim is to give students access and skills in all things gaming. Everything from concept art and story lines through to game design and development and then the marketing angle, which includes the use of 3D printers & CNC routers to create merchandise that is saleable. We also build the consoles for games that are already developed or ones the students develop themselves. We also use the 3D printers to make the controllers.
Where I want to get to...
I want to get to the point where my students can create 3D environments in software such as Blender, Maya or some other modelling software, and then be able to explore and then interact with it with our HTC Vive.
How I am going to get there...
The objective is to introduce the concept of VR/AR/MR. Give each of the students a Google Cardboard and let them download some VR games and some VR 360°. Introducing them to the concept of VR 360° first is an important precursor to creating the interactive VR later on. It will allow the students to get some relative success with not too much effort or stress. I am picking that one year of VR 360° followed by one year of VR interactive should do it, though it also depends on the cohort I get.
What will I need along the way...?
Some Google Cardboard, a HTC Vive (got it), content, either supplied or created. We will recycle/repurpose as much as possible. more to come...
How will I know I made it...?
There will be tangible, viewable and measurable products created by the students. I'll be worn out, I will be beaming, I will be looking forward to the next project, I will be wanting to share the success. more to come...
