2022 Inductees
Jay Abraham - Men's Soccer
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Jay Abraham for three years. He was one of many students in the principles accounting class. He approached me that he was interested in double majoring in accounting and finance, but he had been told that was not a good idea. My first impression of Jay was although he was very respectful when being told no by another professor his tenacity shone through when he didn’t take no for an answer. I have been Jay’s advisor since then and he will finish his undergraduate career in May 2023 as a double major in accounting and finance. Also please note Jay arranged for an upcoming summer internship at a prestigious accounting firm which will add to his academic resume and launch his accounting career. Jay as a student, is academically serious and as a person he is respectful and thoughtful of others. He is consistent in both of these qualities and it is only reinforced with every encounter I have with Jay both in and out of the classroom. Jay is a remarkable person and scholar, and we, the GCU community, will watch with pride as he graduates and makes his mark in the world. Thank you, Jay, for the opportunity to honor you today.” - Dr. McQuillen

And… she became the recipient of a grant that provided her with the funding needed to attend the CEC – Council for Exceptional Children conference. For the conference, she also contributed to a presentation I was doing about resilience. Yanely later shared her experiences from the conference with the benefactor of the grant and the Dean of the School of Education. She was outstanding in the way she shared her experiences at the virtual conference. Her future students will be very fortunate to have her as their teacher!” – Dr. Smorra

Emily has been an excellent student throughout the semester. Recently, we were reviewing her PPT presentation proposal. Her intention was to present about educating the whole student, focusing on physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and creative self. As a future physical education teacher, I appreciated Emily’s consideration for her potential students, those who are athletes, and those who are not. Her intention was to facilitate success for all her students in the PE environment. Within any educational setting, this is imperative. I look forward to Emily being formally accepted into the school of education.” – Dr. Smorra
Alyssa Dias - Women's Soccer
“Alyssa is a student that is memorable to me because of her radiating smile and kind, gentle demeanor. She is hardworking and dedicated to her future career. The commitment to be a nursing student in a rigorous program of study is difficult for any college learner, but to also be an athlete is another added level of dedication. Alyssa's perseverance is commendable, and her academic excellence is among what only few can accomplish. She always took her studies seriously as my student, and she was responsible to her sport and team as well. This induction is so admirable, and we are proud to call her one of our future registered nurses.” – Dr. Stephanie Chung

Jack has a keen knowledge in marketing, and I am quite sure he will make a profound impact this in the workplace.” – Dr. Ashley Elmore

“Alexis Hahn is a brilliant scientist, and a wonderful researcher. She was always a delight to have in class, and as a researcher in my lab. It brings me the greatest joy to know that she wants to teach high school biology. I’m certain she will inspire countless students to pursue their passion for science.” Dr. Jean Parry
Alexa Houston - Women's Volleyball
“Alexa and I first were in class together in fall 2020, and immediately her passion for academics and to be a part of GCU were uplifting. Alexa came to us as a transfer student and she brought her intensity, her spirit and her innate kindness and integrity with her. She assimilated into the fabric of GCU within weeks of starting class. I have seen Alexa’s resolve in solving accounting problems and then when she does so, she turns to help a fellow student. She is always respectful and of service to others. Alexa is intelligent, thoughtful, hardworking, kind and generous. Without question I have no doubt of her integrity and her compassion as well. She lives the Mercy Core Values. It is my pleasure to write this introduction for Alexa and I am honored to have been asked to do so.” – Dr. McQuillen

“Talysa is a one of a kind student. She is smart, motivated and engaging. Talysa approaches each class and assignment with thoughtfulness and commitment. On a personal note, Talysa has one of the kindest souls I have ever encountered. The Social Work department, and the University, are lucky to have her.” – Dr. Megan Sherman
Andjela Kremenovic - Women's Basketball
“I have known Andjela Kremenovic since the Spring semester of 2020, when she enrolled in my biology majors’ class Biological Diversity and Evolution. Andjela said she was a science major and for this reason she was in the class. Usually non-biology majors do not choose to take this class because it is very detail oriented. Much to my surprise, Andjela did better than most biology majors in each of the exams. When COVID hit and we were required to go on-line, Andjela was very active on campus observing and collecting plants. She finished the class with a very good grade. At the same time, Andjela was taking computer science classes, playing basketball, and adjusting to life on an American university campus. Andjela has integrity and dedication, and she is a kind and thoughtful human being who has been a wonderful member of the GCU community for the last few years.” – Brunella Bowditch
Jaison-Ashley Pleva - Women's Track & Field
“Jaison is by far, one of the most attentive and engaging students I have had since I've been teaching at GCU. She participates in every class discussion and always provides interesting comments and perspectives. She goes above and beyond what is expected of her and gives 110% to everything she does. There is no question she will succeed in her life's dreams and goals.” Dr. Mogavero
Shaine Sauter - Women's Lacrosse
“Shaine Sauter is a BA in Health Profession Studies major with Spanish minor at GCU. She is a University’s Honors program student who decided to complete one of her Honors By Contract in HRP111 Intro to Health Science course in Fall 2021 to fulfill her Honors course requirement. While she is an accomplished student athlete with excellent academic record (GPA 3.4238) as of spring 2022, I would like to mention her character quality that I had the privilege of learning through two of the courses she was in (HRP111 Intro to Health Science and HRP444 Capstone in Health Science). Shaine is a very conscientious and deep learner. She takes her responsibility as a learner seriously and carry through at her very best of herself consistently. Even though I am not her employer, I truly wish to hire her if I have a position to offer her. I am looking forward for her continuous journey through her life beyond GCU. Go Shaine!” – Dr. Sachiko Komagata
Shane Williams - Men's Basketball
“Selection to Chi Alpha Sigma is not for the faint hearted. An academic requirement of 3.4 GPA or above, an endorsement from the coach, and being of a good moral character are the qualities that every school, every professor, and indeed every nation pray for their students, for their sons and their daughters. Thank you for inviting me to your induction to this prestigious Honor Society. I was not surprised that you would make it into the best of these because you are one of the best we have out there. You aced the three courses- economics and statistics- you took with me in the last two years. I am sure your future will be the envy of any who has had the privilege of associating with you. May God continue to bless you with good health, good mind and good brains. You are one of the best.” – Dr. Okpokwasili
Erin Wimmer - Women's Soccer
“Erin has worked very hard during the nursing program as her advisor I have watched her grow tremendously over the past few years. Nothing is a given in nursing… just like a sport. One must work hard. Erin has worked extremely hard and undoubtedly had very long hours while participating in both sports and nursing activity. I am incredibly proud of Erin, and I know that this year has been even more difficult. Erin, may you stand tall and glow in your accomplishments. Continue to be the best you can be, and you will never go wrong.” – Joan Harvey
