The origins date back to the second half of the 19th century, and the hotel has been providing a sumptuous retreat for the world's intellectuals, artists, and titled dignitaries ever since.

In winter 2019/2020 we started a € 30 million worth renewal project, involving the total renovation of the outside pools, the Des Iles Medical SPA and the creation of the new stunning MINOLA ROOM of 400sqm.
All the hotel's 158 lavishly appointed guestrooms are furnished in the Italian Liberty style which once characterized many of Piedmont's most elegant 19th century villas.
The luxurious suites of the Grand Hotel, including one dedicated to Ernest Hemingway (who was particularly fond of the hotel), are furnished with exquisite polychrome marbles and priceless antiques.

Working as a team the chefs of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées and the nutritionists of Des Iles Medical & Beauty Lab have created low-calorie customizable personalized menus that can grant an extremely pleasurable dining experience. The restaurant “Il Borromeo”, open also to non-resident guests, will amaze you with its low calories suggestions and veggy, vegan and gluten free dishes.
In September 1918, the American writer Ernest Hemingway arrived in Stresa for the first time at the age of 19, recovering from a war wound.
Reminiscing about the beauty of the place, Hemingway, set part of his novel “Farewell to Arms” in the hotel. The name of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées then became known worldwide.
Our Hemingway Bar is the perfect frame to enjoy a drink, exactly where the famous writer Ernest Hemingway drank his Martini in 1918.

After an extensive renovation, our brand Des Iles SPA is finally operational with more than 3000 sq meters dedicated to wellness. The Medical & Beauty Lab with 2 medical consultation rooms, the nail SPA, hairdresser and 15 treatments rooms where guests can indulge in a range of advanced and latest generation treatments.
During the summer, access to the "Pools in the Park": including naturalistic pool for swimming and relaxing on the shore with bubblers, swimming pool with diving board and a whirlpool with beds, waterfalls, cervical massage and phlebological path. “Le Bistrot” will be at your disposal for poolside lunches, gourmet snacks and aperitifs.
Throughout the year free access to the “Oasis Pavilion SPA”: In & Out pool with whirlpool beds, bubbles area, cervical massage, music pool, Kneipp path, Paradise path of emotional showers, Blue Artic and Orange Tropic Showers, sauna, Turkish bath, Hammam, ice fall, Snowfall Room.
