BACKGROUND
The 15th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) is happening in Montreal from December 7th–19th. The conference represents a key opportunity for world leaders to take a crucial step towards bringing about transformative change for our ocean and planet.
We’re calling on all RISE UP members to show support for securing the 30x30 target – to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 – at CBD COP15 and to also highlight the importance of upholding and enhancing Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) rights as set out in the text of the Blue Call to Action.
Out of the back of recent reports of world leaders deciding not to attend the CBD COP15. We’re also urging heads of state to reconsider this decision and attend the meeting to send a strong signal to the global community that restoration of our ocean is a priority in the light of the biodiversity and climate crises.
