February is National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! Did you know that Midland Public Schools offers many different CTE programs that prepare students for various high-demand, high-wage careers?

This week, we highlight the Marketing Sales and Service/Entrepreneurship and Accounting and Financial Management Program

Behind every purchase is a marketing and sales campaign. This is a rapidly growing field in Michigan.

MPS courses offered in Marketing/Entrepreneurship/Financial Management:

  • Marketing
  • Merchandising/Sales Management
  • Accounting I
  • Accounting II

Featured Students:

Steven Hackbarth, Senior, MHS, and Ellie Senkowski, Junior, DHS

When asked how the Marketing/Finance program has made an impact on their education, Steven and Ellie responded:

“We’ve had a very active year, so we’ve applied everything we’ve learned to the school store. So this has been an opportunity for very hands-on learning experience. It’s been a lot of fun, we’ve had a lot of learning opportunities too, as far as how a business operates in terms of the sales force, the marketing, scheduling other students… so there’s definitely a real-world manager experience. You also find out what you really like to do among those things.” - Steven Hackbarth

“Being a manager in the Charger Shoppe has been a really good experience for getting experience in the business field and just being exposed to different elements that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to otherwise. The marketing class taught me a lot of background information that I would need to know, such as how to deal with customers, how to market things, and being able to step in as a manager last year [when needed]. Then this year, being able to actually apply those skills and how to work with my fellow managers and employees and it just taught me a really good experience that I’ll be able to use in the future.” - Ellie Senkowski

Thanks, Steven and Ellie and keep up the great work!

In recognition of January's National Hobby Month, the MHS Junior Varsity Leadership class created a school-wide hobby-sharing activity. Students were invited to bring a tangible item that represented their hobby to their 3rd-hour class on January 26th. The purpose of the activity was to learn more about one another, celebrate our unique strengths, and recognize that we all belong here at MHS. The classes that had the greatest participation received cookies. Those classes were Mr. Mulvaney's and Mr. Fawcett's classes. Great job everyone!
