Adams Update April 28, 2023

Arbor Day Lessons at Adams Elementary

Thanks go out to Debbie Anderson and our partners at the Dow Gardens, as they provided a special experience for our 4th grade students today, in honor of Arbor Day. Students moved between three different stations, learning why trees are important, the job skills of an arborist--including how they climb trees (!)--and logging history. Students even received a white pine seedling to take home! It was a fun, educational experience. Thank you, Dow Gardens!

Kindergarten Classes Explore the Outdoors at the Chippewa Nature Center

Our Kindergarten classes had a grand time at the Chippewa Nature Center, with Mrs. May and Mrs. Price's classes visiting last week, and Mrs. Richard and Mrs. Zank's classes visiting this week. Students enjoyed the outdoor learning experiences and had a great time on this spring field trip. Thank you to the Chippewa Nature Center for being such wonderful hosts, and great job, Adams Atoms!

M-STEP Season

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are starting the M-STEP testing that takes place each spring. Each of those grades will take Math and English assessments, and the 5th grade participates in additional tests in Science and Social Studies. Teachers will let you know when the testing is happening. Encourage your children to do their best, but not to worry about the test. There is no special way to prepare, other than attending school and doing a great job along the way. If you have any questions about the M-STEP, please reach out to your child's teacher or me.

Fire Drill

This past Monday we completed our final Fire Drill of the school year--all of the different types of drills we're required to perform throughout the year are now done. Students did a great job leaving the building quickly and quietly, moving to their safe spaces away from the building. As always, additional resources were available for students for whom this was a stressful experience. Thank you to our staff for doing such a great job teaching safety procedures during the drills, and thank you to our students for listening, following directions, and being safe.

Attention 2023-24 4th and 5th Graders: Join the Adams Robotics Team!

If you will be in the 4th or 5th grade in the upcoming, 2023-24 school year, we're looking for you! We have openings for interested students to participate in the Adams First Lego League (FLL) Robotics program next year.

You can learn more about FLL at their website: https://www.firstlegoleague.org/season.

The Explore experience is for students in grades 2-3, and the Challenge program is for grades 4-5. This program will start up in the fall, right after school starts.

Is your child interested? If so, please fill out the form below and let us know. We will also need parent mentors--teams cannot participate without parent mentors! If you are interested in filling that role, please note that on the form, as well.
