Decay is a Cycle Kaylei Williamson

Kaylei Williamson, Decay is a Cycle (2022) Mixed media on canvas, 24in x 30in

This work explores the idea of decay and the cycles that take place under the ground after life. I found it important to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature because as humans, we are still very much a part of the environment around us, coexisting alongside nature. There is a significance in realizing that everything living breaks down into the earth at the end of its life, including ourselves and it is something that we cannot prevent even if we try. The process of things decomposing was expressed by including materials and imagery like leaves, moss and mushrooms which are all a part of the composting process. There is also the inclusion of organic patterns and lines to highlight the natural aspects of the work, and spirals to communicate the idea of a continuous cycle.
