In LIRA this half term, we have read a wide variety of texts and worked on various skills.
We have read a wide variety of texts such as “California’s Unlikely Warriors”, “Throwing a tree” and “Giants”.
We have worked on our inference and deduction skills, investigated the deeper meaning of texts and practised answering 3-mark questions.
literacy outcome this half term was to write a newspaper report based on the book “Boy in the Tower”.
We read a variety of newspaper articles in order to identify what makes a good one and magpied as much vocabulary as possible.
We then learnt and practised a variety of writing techniques which would help us to compose our newspaper report: Parenthesis, direct speech and formal and informal writing.

We have been extremely busy in maths this half term. We have been learning about...
We had fun when learning about the mean. We went outside and throw bean bags at targets then calculated our average score.
Our topic this half-term has had a Geography focus!
First of all, to hook us into our learning we applied our compass points and grid referencing skills, which we learnt last term, to locate different parts of the school!
We then learned about the human geographical characteristics of Barnsley and different sources of energy. We used this information to create our own maps of Barnsley.
During science week, our theme was ‘growth’.
We discussed what is needed for a plant to grow. We then planted our own cress and salad seeds, and then made observations.
Our focus in PE this half term has been gymnastics as well as revisiting netball.
In PHSE and rse this half term we learnt about puberty and the changing body. We are extremely proud of the maturity shown by the children when discussing this topic.
This half term we went to the maratime museum to apply the knowledge and skills we learnt about the titanic last term.
There has been lots of reason to celebrate this half-term. We have had lots of children who have won certificates, Mystery read and weekly points prizes.
