November 2022 Mother Margaret Mary Catholic High School

Let Us Pray

God of all seasons, we thank you for Autumn.

We thank you

for the touch of coolness in the air that gives us a new burst of energy,

for the coloring of trees that shows the creativity of the Divine Artist,

for the falling leaves that reveal the strength of the branches,

for the hues of fields that bring peace to our souls,

for the smiles on pumpkins that bring joy to children,

for the fall harvest which that brings us gratitude for the bounty of our land,

for this change of seasons that reveals the circle of life.

God of all seasons, as you transform the earth, transform us by your Spirit.

Amen

Should I commit to Taking AP Exams?

Whether you’re taking an AP course for the first time, have experienced an AP course before, or are gearing up for your last AP class as a senior, completing your course by taking an AP Exam always has benefits. Even students who score a 1 or 2 on an AP Exam are more likely to attend college and graduate on time (than academically similar students who don’t take AP). In a recent survey of nearly 2,000 first-year college students, over 90% of respondents who earned an AP Exam score of 2 said they’re doing well (or very well) in college courses that cover similar content.

All AP Exam scores prove you’re willing to work hard and complete college-level work.

1. Maximize Your Hard Work ─ Go All In on AP:

2. Let’s think about the other classes you’re taking. You work hard to prepare for final exams and submit semester projects to complete the class. Going through the year with an end goal in mind keeps you motivated. It’s no different with your AP courses. Taking the exam is part of the AP experience, and you earn more than a grade at the end of the course.

3. Seize the opportunity to save time and money

4. Did you know that two out of three AP students earn college credit in high school? Don’t miss your chance to join them. You can only earn college credit, advanced placement, or both if you complete the AP Exam. Earning credit and/or placement gives you the flexibility to change majors, pursue a second degree, study abroad, seek internships, or transfer colleges.

5. Check out the credit policies at the institutions below.

o University of Alberta, MacEwan University, Concordia University, King’s University, University of Calgary, University of British Columbia.

6. Regardless of your AP Exam score, completing an AP course and exam advances you academically. You’ll develop skills that help you succeed in your current classes and in college, such as time management, critical thinking, scholarly writing, and independent study. Sharpening these skills as you prepare for your AP Exam makes your transition from high school to college easier. Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams have better college outcomes than their peers.

Superintendent's message

November is a month which has so many events that draw our eyes to the concept of peace. We only need turn on the television today, or look at social media, and we see that there is much turmoil around us. Whether we are marking solemn memorials of Remembrance Day or Holodomor or looking at current events, we are called to examine how we can be agents of peace. The quote from Pope Francis’ message provides a good framework for our reflection this month. We can ask ourselves how we are building peace within ourselves, our relationships, society, and with Creation. Peace does not just happen in these domains; it requires intentionality and commitment.
