Principal's Message
Another week has gone by and the children are continuing to do well. Lots of great work being completed and the children are talking confidently about their learning. We had a visit for the Trust's OFSTED Lead who was impressed with how well your children can talk about history. Ask your children about subjects such as science, history and geography and be amazed by their knowledge.
Well the weather is starting to make it's presence felt this week! It's a lot chillier in school and it might be time to get the hats and scarves out. The coolest rooms are being heated, whilst some rooms feel quite warm. Please send your child in with suitable outerwear and let's keep those coughs and sneezes at bay!
Atom Prime - you may have had an email about signing up. This is a free resource we are trialling to support with homework, more to come soon, they were a bit quick of the mark!

Learning at FHA
This week in Maple we have been working hard looking at the physical and human features in Wales, in science this week we looked at how to make a compass. Using a needle, disc of cork and a bowl of water perhaps they could try this at home. In writing this week we been having a go at adding more detail to our writing using adjectives and similes.
Silver Birch - Another amazing week in year 3. We've really worked hard across all subjects. In art we're continuing to work on our sketching skills and in Music we have learned more about rhythm and pulse. We love singing before lunch! We learnt a few new songs and really enjoy singing with the teacher. We even know how to use thinking voice when singing!
Pine class have had a great week and learnt loads of interesting things! We have especially enjoyed our Science lesson this week, where we learnt all about our muscles, how they work in antagonistic pairs, and even the different types of muscle in our bodies. Everyone loved showing off
This week Elder class have been working very hard, especially in Maths and Geography. In Maths we have been using concrete resources to subtract, we have used known facts to derive new facts, everyone has shown great attention for learning with this. In Geography, we have been using our researching and report writing skills to write a report on The Alps. We have really enjoyed finding out new facts like ‘The Alps were formed 65 million years ago’,
Willow have been working hard on all subjects this week. Their writing skills have been challenged during Talk 4 Reading and they have been building ideas ready for their independent writing. They have also enjoyed taking part in art looking at creating their own self portraits. We also had another successful clarinet lessons this week the children and really working hard on creating some wonderful sounds in preparation for their clarinets performance later on in the year. Great work this week Willow.
This week Sequoia class has been working really hard on our portrait drawing skills. We have had lots of fun using mirrors to create self -portraits and are looking forward to adding colour to these. In our writing sessions we have been trying to use more ambitious vocabulary and apply our knowledge of similes and personification to create an atmosphere. We have also been finding our signing voices and growing in confidence during our daily music sessions. Well done Sequoias- you sound amazing!
Acer - Acer had a fantastic time at the Living Rainforest on Monday and they represented the school well. On Wednesday we had Cummins in for a stem project. The children loved creating paper bridges, which had to support books, they got very competitive. Well done Acer for a great week!
Oak class had a fantastic week of learning starting with our trip to the Living Rainforest. We were able to learn about the different plants and animals that would be found in a tropical rainforest and how they have adapted to the climate and environment. In our Latin lessons, we learnt how to play the Roman board game called ‘Rota’ which we learnt means wheel. The children had a brilliant time playing against each other. Well done to Cian who was our overall winner! We were very lucky to have Cummins in to speak to Year 6 about engineering and all the different jobs that workers do at the company. Children worked in groups to help assemble engine parts using Lego, using their thinking skills to build a bridge and using their mathematical brains to solve a range of puzzles.
Theo wrote to Nasa and the British Space agency, asking how he can become an astronaut. He received replies from both and was really proud!
Tahlia won two rosettes for dressage and show jumping during the holidays for a pony camp competition she took part in....and last week she passed her exam to gain her Pony Club bronze award!
Well being news

Trying to help your child make friends can be a challenge.
Children’s friendships are complex. They’re likely to make and fall out with friends throughout their childhood. It helps them learn how to communicate with others, problem solve, and develop social skills.
Many children have lots of friends, while others stick with one best friend. Some children struggle to make and keep positive friendships and will need extra support to tackle specific difficulties.
Ways to help your child make friends
Lots of children find it difficult to make friendships. Understanding why your child is struggling can help you plan ways to best support them.
There are a range of reasons why some children struggle to make and keep friends:
Low self-confidence
Naturally shy or quiet
Difficulties with communication skills
Struggle to manage their emotions
Challenges with sharing and turn-taking skills
Different interests and hobbies
You can’t force your child to make friends, but you can tackle any underlying problems that may affect them. You could help them develop conversation skills using role play, teach turn-taking, and practise playing games if they find it hard to share or lose.
If your child is anxious, you could invite a like-minded child over for a quieter playdate at your home to help them feel more relaxed. Start with short plays and increase the length as they build in confidence.
