HOW TO HELP: UKRAINE SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLKIT The most effective way to assist relief efforts is by making cash contributions to humanitarian organizations that are conducting relief operations

BACKGROUND

There has been an outpouring of support for the people of Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war. Given the current state of affairs in Ukraine, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) recommends that the best way to support humanitarian relief efforts is by providing monetary contributions to aid groups on the ground rather than donating materials and goods. While material donations are well-meaning, they create logistical and transport challenges. Cash donations, on the other hand, support the local economy and allow aid workers to purchase exactly what is needed.

Our colleagues at the State Department partnered with GoFundMe to direct funds to organizations that are helping to address the humanitarian needs of those impacted by the Kremlin’s aggression against Ukraine. All donations raised will be distributed to verified nonprofit organizations supporting vulnerable communities to obtain access to shelter, food, medical services, education, and psychosocial support, as well as other people impacted.
