Player of the Week
Freddie Dilione from the Word of God Holy Rams has been named the Overtime Elite Player of the Week.
The Tennessee commit had a massive first week of the season averaging 28 points across three games. He broke the OTE scoring record in his first game with 36 points and followed that up with 35 points in the final game of the weekend at OTE Arena. Dilione also averaged 6.3 rebounds per game, 5.7 assists per game and 2.7 steals per game.
The 35 points helped the Holy Rams get their first win of the season over the Cold Hearts in an exciting 104-103 game on Saturday night.
Early in his career as part of Overtime Elite, Dilione has shown he might be the most explosive scorer the league has seen in its second year of action. Last year, there were three occasions where 30 points were scored in a game and Dilione did it twice in his first week of games.
Dreamerz Roll to 3-0
The YNG Dreamerz have come out hot to start the season, winning all three games by an average of 12.3 points.
This week, they’ll face a different challenge, hitting the road and playing the OSL Falcons and Evangel Eagles in the Bronx. The Falcons are in their first season as part of OTE and have a 1-2 record.
Their success early on has been a complete team effort as they have four players averaging double figure scoring led by Jaylen Martin averaging 18.3 points per game. Martin was named OTE Player of the Week after the first weekend for his strong start to the season. Bryson Warren and Jazian Gortman are both averaging over 15.0 points per game.
Two Undefeated Teams Play on Amazon Prime?
If the YNG Dreamerz can get two wins on the road early in the week, there will be an undefeated matchup with the City Reapers this Friday at OTE Arena on Amazon Prime at 7 p.m.
The City Reapers are led by Ausar Thompson, Amen Thompson and Johned Walker. All are averaging double figures on offense. Defensively, Ausar, Amen and Somto Cyril all make an impact with steals and blocks. Ausar leads the league averaging 4.0 steals per game and Cyril is third in blocks averaging 2.5 per game.
The game on Friday will be a big chance for either of these teams to push themselves as a contender and have an early leg up in the standings of the Overtime Elite season.
Holy Rams Go Off Against Cold Hearts
The Word of God Holy Rams won their first OTE game with a massive performance on offense scoring 104 points to get their first win in the league this season.
Freddie Dilione followed up his record breaking performance on Tuesday by almost matching it once again, scoring 35 points in the winning effort.
His teammate Davin Cosby put himself in the record books as well as knocking down six threes in the first half to break the single-game OTE record for three pointers made in a game. The Alabama commit finished with seven threes in the game to have 23 points.
They’ll look to make it two in a row this Saturday against the Hillcrest Bruins in Raleigh at 7 p.m.
Cold Hearts Look to Bounce Back on the Road
The Cold Hearts had a tough weekend going 0-2 against the Dreamerz and Holy Rams, but will get better as the season moves along with all of their explosive players.
Adding Rob Dillingham last week, it’ll take the team some time to get used to playing together. Dillingham scored 19 points in his first full game of action against the Holy Rams. Him along with leading scorers Tyler Smith and Bryce Griggs, the Cold Hearts will never have trouble scoring the basketball.
This week, the Cold Hearts two games will be in the Bronx on Tuesday and Wednesday.
OSL Falcons Play First Home Games of Overtime Elite Season
The OSL Falcons will play their first home game of the Overtime Elite season this week, hosting the YNG Dreamerz and Cold Hearts. They’ll look to push their win streak to two in a row after defeating the Holy Rams in a come from behind victory last week in Raleigh.
It’s already been a big week for the Falcons as point guard Ty-Laur Johnson committed to play for Memphis next season.
