Our School Water Guide 2Nd eso global scholars students 2022/23
We are proud to present you this water guide to share information about water sources at our school, Ins Tarragona. This guide includes a map of school water sources, information about each water source, and ideas for ways to improve availability, accessibility and usage for everyone.
To create this water guide we did field research to conduct an audit of our school water sources. Where is water available in our school? How do our school community use and access water? We took a walk to make a map of our school’s water sources. We also made notes about our observations during the walk.
Water source maps
On these water source maps, we have marked places where people can use and access water. You have the sinks in green, the toilets in red and the fountains in blue.
Availability
The amount of water sources in our school is appropriate. The distribution of bathrooms and water sources are appropriate and they are distributed in different zones which are located in places easy to find and use.
We like the idea that in the teacher's room you can find a water machine that works from big plastic bottles.
On the underground floor, we can visit the Science Laboratory, where we have six sinks to wash our hands and the material we use for experiments.
Accessibility
There are many types of bathrooms (for boys and for girls, for men and for women) and fountains in our school, but most have good accessibility.
We have one bathroom for boys and one for girls on every floor, and we also have an elevator if someone can’t go upstairs on foot.
However, we have a problem sometimes, and this is that the boys’ toilets are often closed due to vandalism. Then, we have to go to the 1st floor with a card from our teacher and go to the Secretary to ask for the key of the bathroom.
We have 2 fountains, both on the playgrounds. One of them is lower than the other, perfect for disabled people.
Usage
We could observe that, in general, water is used correctly in our school.
We observed that there were no leaks in any taps or pipes. Everything is in a very good state of maintenance. This is very good because this way water is not wasted unnecessarily.
Water in our school is safe for our health, so it's safe water, because all the water we found is drinking water.
Improvements we suggest
Although we didn't observe many things to fix, we have some suggestions:
To improve accessibility, we could install another lift for people in wheelchairs or on crutches.
One of the fountains, the one in playground 1, could be improved as it gets a lot of sun and, being made of metal, it overheats a lot. The force with which it draws the water could also be improved, since it comes out with very little force. In our sinks there are not many leaks so the availability is very good.
Regarding availability, there are enough toilets in our school for all the students and staff, so there is no need to install more. We think that there could be some more fountains in places like the playground, the hall, etc.
The water in our school is mainly used for personal hygiene when we get our hands dirty for instance, to flush the toilets, and to drink it. In order to conserve water in our school, we could install faucets that open and close manually, since being automatic, the water continues to come out when you finish washing your hands. In this way, a lot of water could be saved.
