Year 7 & 11 camp wrap-up

Experiences and highlights

It was a great pleasure to have both Year 7 students and their Year 11 Peer Leaders attend our recent camp program at Tallebudgera, QLD. On the whole everyone displayed exceptional enthusiasm, positive attitudes, and an eagerness to participate in all activities. The kindness and respect shown towards each other and camp staff was commendable.

Throughout the camp, students engaged in a variety of activities, from outdoor adventures, sports, and team-building exercises. The students demonstrated great teamwork skills and often lent a helping hand to their peers. Their energy and willingness to try new things was contagious, and it created a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for everyone involved.

One particular highlight was when students participated in the Trivia /Karaoke night. Here they showcased amazing talent that truly impressed the audience. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to display their unique abilities with confidence.

A key focus during the camp was on providing a balanced experience, fostering personal growth, social skills, and grit. We encouraged students to step out of their comfort zone, embrace new challenges, and develop valuable life skills along the way.

Thank you for entrusting us with the care and development of your child during their time at camp. We truly appreciate your support and cooperation. We hope that everyone had a memorable and enriching experience, filled with new friendships, exciting adventures, and valuable lessons.

BBHS Athletics Carnival

We have fingers crossed for sunny weather for our upcoming annual School Athletics Carnival, which will be held at the Cavanbah Centre.

Date: Wednesday 24 May

Wear: Colour House colours (the brighter the better!)

Food: There will be NO canteen facilities available on the day. However, our Year 12 students will be running their legendary BBQ fundraiser - sausage sandwiches, snow cones and cakes will be available to purchase.

On the day, students will compete in the age group of the AGE THEY TURN THIS YEAR. Age groups range from 12 – 18 years of age. Some events are restricted to certain age groups at Far North Coast level, however we run all events for all age groups at our school carnival.

Parents are very welcome to attend. A program of events will be sent out prior to the day. Any students wishing to nominate for the events that are not run at school, but are run at NSWCHS State Athletics (2km Steeplechase, 200m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, Pentathlon, 12-14 Years Girls 1500m Walk, 12-15 Years Boys 1500m Walk, 15-19 Years 300m Walk) will need to nominate on the day and have evidence of qualifying times in these sanctioned events.

Transport

Buses coming from the North of our Shire will drop off directly at the Cavanbah Centre, where students will meet teachers already at the fields. All other buses will drop to school as normal. At 9:00 am hired buses will transport students from school to the Cavanbah Centre and return them at the end of the day for normal school buses home.

Attendance

The Athletics Carnival is one of the major school events on the calendar and it is expected that students attend. There are plenty of events, both competitive and non-competitive heats and novelty events, to keep everyone happy.

Sport news

NSWCHS soccer achievements

Congratulations to our students Mia Hlaing, Marki Cameron, Jack Wilson, Aaron Spy, Rufus Scott and Jackson Luke who were a part of the North Coast soccer teams that competed at the NSWCHS State Championships last week.

The Boys team came 4th overall, which is a super strong effort! Aaron and Rufus have now been selected for the NSWCHS team to play against All Schools in June. Jackson was also selected as a shadow reserve.

Rufus received team recognition as the 'Players Player' and Aaron received the award of 'Emerging Country Player' of the tournament. Congratulations boys!

Mia Hlaing recently competed in the girls North Coast team, finishing up 9th overall. Mia is a young player on the Opens North Coast team and she has an extremely bright soccer future… Keep a eye out for her future successes! Well done Mia.

NSWCHS State Swimming - Sydney International Aquatic Centre

A big congratulations to our BBHS swimmers Elosie Knezy, Japhi Knezy, Zac Boyd-Fotiades, Jimmy Coppin-Buckenham and Lawson King who recently competed at the NSWCHS State Swimming Championships in Sydney.

Great swims from everyone on the big stage, with some setting new PB’s. Many thanks to all the parents who travelled with their children to Sydney, so they could represent Byron Bay High School at this renowned event.

A special mention must go to Lawson King who qualified for 2 finals in the 100m Butterfly (8th) and 100m Backstroke (9th).
