Year 4

In 4H, Miss Frawley was showing us how to create Picasso inspired art.

Ava said, "We made it a bit different by doing different perspectives and colouring it with oil pastels".

Clancy said, "First we did the black outline, and then we coloured it all. We did the trees, and then we finished up with a sunset background."

Maddy said, "First we painted the background in watercolor then we created the stems and then the wattles. I used red and yellow."

4V and 4S visited the school gardens recently to see how much our edible plants have grown since we planted them last term. We integrated this lesson with our Science unit of work on solids, liquids and gases. As an experiment, we wanted to see how we could change the state of matter by removing heat from a liquid. We chose some herbs from our garden to be combined with water in trays and placed them in the freezer. The outcome was a refreshing ice block with a hint of flavour that cooled us down on a hot day!

End of Year Celebration

Christmas Decoration Donations needed

We are seeking Christmas decorations for the End of Year Celebration being held on the 7 December. If you have any Christmas trees, tinsel, baubles etc in good condition or that you no longer require, we would appreciate if you could drop to the school office or the STEM room to Mrs Whitney. Thank you in advance.

Subjects covered in this handbook include:

Assistant Principal Curriculum & Instruction

The department has introduced a new Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (APC&I) position in all primary public schools with enrolments from Kindergarten to Year 6. This new leadership role is designed to work alongside Assistant Principals and Deputy Principals in providing high support to teachers in literacy and numeracy. They will work collaboratively with the leadership team in the implementation of the new English and Mathematics Syllabus next year.

The APC&I will provide guidance and professional learning to staff. They work alongside teachers in classrooms to enhance high quality teaching practices. This might look like demonstration lessons, team teaching or working with small groups of students in focussed literacy and numeracy tasks. Their role is dedicated to ensuring our students have strong literacy and numeracy knowledge.

Byron Bay Public School’s APC&I is Ashley Perusco, who officially begins the role in 2023. We look forward to working with her in this new role.

Presentation Day

Our annual Presentation Day for Years 3 - 6 will be held next Wednesday 7 December at 9:45am under the COLA. Parents of those students who are award recipients have received an email to attend this presentation. We look forward to seeing you at this important occasion to celebrate the achievements of these students.

Special thanks to Emma Bourke and Ben Crick, parents who helped on the day. Happy Reading!!

Crossing Supervisor Position

‘Transport for NSW’ informed us that our school will be without a crossing supervisor until another one can be employed. If you are interested in the job or know of someone that might be, please see this link for additional information and the job add.

Please talk to your children about the importance of safe pedestrian behaviour, particularly on this crossing which is a busy one. Here are some reminders:

  • Wherever possible, cross the road at a designated pedestrian crossing facility;
  • Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road;
  • Take care whenever you cross; and
  • Don’t run across the road.

If you use the Tennyson St crossing, please consider accompanying your children across the road until a suitable replacement crossing supervisor is employed by ‘Transport for NSW’.
