PE December Round Up

Fixtures:

Yr 7 & 8 Football On the 1st of December the Year 7 & 8 Football Team progressed to the finals of the Slough Schools Power League competition hosted by Slough and Eton School. Having progressed to the Cup Finals from the open competition on the 17th December the students were excited to challenge themselves against the best teams in the District.

On the evening the students had 5 games to negotiate in the league format. After some tight games and some fantastic teamwork they won four out of their 5 games and drew one.

It was an anxious wait for all the results to be calculated but the girls were thrilled to be crowned Cup winners for 2021.

Congratulations to all those students who took part in both tournaments, you represented both yourselves and Baylis Court School with pride and humility.

On the 8th December the Yr 10 Netball Team went to Eden Girl’s for a friendly Netball Match.

Mrs Nelson rotated the Squad and gave everyone the opportunity to play in a variety of positions in each of the four quarters.

In a tight match which saw the lead change multiple times Baylis Court edged ahead to take the win in the final quarter.

Inter Form:

Before the Christmas break Yr 7 and Yr 8 students took part in inter form competitions in both Netball and Cross country running. Students took part with enthusiasm and represented their form groups with great vigour and determination.

Deeper Learning Day:

All year 9 students had the opportunity to try out a new activity during Deeper Learning Day in PE. Mrs Nelson (who has recently qualified as a Boxercise Instructor) gave the students an introduction to the activity. Students responded so well to this activity that Mrs Nelson is offering a new Extra-curricular club on a Thursday beginning on the 10th February.

If you are interested in joining this activity please come to the PE Department to sign up to book your place as numbers will be limited.

Curriculum:

“Barclays Game On”

Since being involved / staring in the FA and Barclays #GirlsFootballInSchools campaign video the PE Staff have been using the “Developing Life Skills and Leadership Through Football” programme as part of KS3 Core PE teaching.

The programme helps develop core transferrable skills that are essential to help people adapt and thrive in the fast changing future workplace.

The focus of the learning is to empower the students to design, create and deliver football activity to their peers, whilst understanding what leadership is, and helping them articulate and apply the skills that they have developed.

Sport Education

Since January all KS 3 students have been introduced to “Sport Education”, which is a model that sees students participate as members of teams in seasons that are longer than the usual physical education unit (normally longer than six weeks). They take an active role in their own sport and physical activity experience by serving in varied and realistic roles that are evident in authentic sport settings such as captains, coaches, trainers, statisticians, officials, publicists, and members of a sports council. Teams develop camaraderie through team uniforms, names, and develop strong affiliations with their teams as they work together to learn and develop their skills and tactical play.

The main aims of the programme are for students to:

  • Develop skills and fitness specific to particular sports.
  • Appreciate and be able to execute strategic play in sports.
  • Participate at a level appropriate to their stage of development.
  • Share in the planning and administration of sport experiences.
  • Provide responsible leadership.
  • Work effectively within a group toward common goals.
  • Appreciate the rituals and conventions that give particular sports their unique meanings.
  • Develop the capacity to make reasoned decisions about sport issues.
  • Develop and apply knowledge about umpiring, refereeing, and training.
  • Decide voluntarily to become involved in after-school sport.

As a department we would really appreciate any feedback on whether your child has become more engaged in PE and School Sport since we have made these curriculum changes.

Slough Youth Parliament

Our candidates have started their campaigns to represent Baylis Court School within the Slough Youth Parliament. Elections will take place next month. Let’s hear from the candidates…

Haddy Bojang (Year 8)

Hello, I’m Haddy and I am campaigning for slough youth parliament. I believe that this would be a great opportunity for me as I am ambitious and driven. I believe on hard work and in doing so once I set my mind to something I won’t give up in achieving it. I believe that you should vote for me for slough parliament as I am social, reliable, productive, and hard working. With these characteristics I believe I would be a great choice!

Isra Sanad (Year 8)

I think you should vote for me because I will help make our community better and give you a voice to be able to talk about problems in our local community. I will also allow students to talk to me and allow them to tell me what kind of problems they would like to see fixed and see if I shall be able to help them. I will also be able to expand my knowledge, to help the community.

Gurvinder Sahota (Year 9)

What do you want out of your community? What issues would you like to bring forward? What would you do to make Slough a better place? My name is Gurvinder Sahota and I am one of our school's candidates, running for Slough Youth Parliament. Vote for me if you would like your opinions and concerns voiced. Vote for me if you want your representative to put 100% effort into the work they do for Slough. And someone, who with your help, can make Slough a better place to live in. Vote Gurvinder!

Abra-Ayan Arshid-Ali (Year 10)

I believe in, 'putting yourself out there' it is a way of saying be broad and confident. It showcases your ability and talent. Now, Baylis has held an outstanding reputation for itself, this is remotely through all the girl's talents and their special gifts. It is through uniqueness and capability that our school has shone brightly among all the other schools of the Slough community. Voting for me would allow for Baylis to be the best they can be, as I am outgoing, willing, and hardworking. I will ensure that everyone has an equal chance in all opportunities. I believe that I do bring out the best in people.

Maha Khan (Year 10)

My name is Maha Khan, and I am running for the Slough Youth Parliament. I am running for Youth Parliament because I want to give my peers a voice that will be heard. I want to encourage younger generations to stand up for what they believe is right. I am a caring individual with a passion to do my part in making the world a better place and I will always use my position to help others.

Amika Kumar (Year 13)

As your Slough Youth Parliament candidate, it will be my duty to ensure all your voices and opinions are heard and are taken into account. What matters to you, will be for sure my full responsibility! I’m a highly-motivated young woman who will fight for your rights! So, if you empower me with your trust, then as a team we’ll start from solving local problems and making our community a safe & better place!

I hope you take this opportunity into consideration and VOTE FOR ME!
