Glorious Food

We had another lovely visit from Katy and Amy this week and our Kindful Kitchen session was finding out about rice. Katy told us that there was more than 40,000 varieties of rice and we were all very surprised by this. We looked at which country rice is typically grown in and how it can be used as an ingredient in lots of different foods. The children had a great time working as a team to assemble the ingredients to make cheesy rice crackers. The finished product smelled and tasted amazing! We finished the session by being grateful for rice and we said a big thank you to farmers for growing it.

In English the children have been exploring the features of instructions and did a brilliant job following instructions to make a jam sandwich, which they thoroughly enjoyed!

The children enjoyed using Google Earth to find the North Pole. We looked at the achievements of Matthew Henson and his voyage there in 1909. We explored pictures of Matthew Henson and thought about what it would have been like on his travels, which generated lots of discussion and questions. The children then used speech bubbles to take on the role of his character and wrote some interesting facts.
