Hello New recruits

Find out more about our new Digital Leaders

Code Fest 2022

We kicked Code Fest Week off with Hayley Laidlow-Wilson from Sniff and Snails with a talk on Technology and Your Future. Using our coding skills, Year 3 and Year 4 took part in Sphero workshops and Year 5 and Year 6 took part in Crumble workshops, hosted by Dom from Skill Supply. We designed our own games on Scratch and took part in unplugged coding tasks. We researched famous computer scientist such as Bill Gates, Grace Hopper and Ada Lovelace and presented our information using Adobe Creative Cloud. Take a look at the highlights, you may have made an appearance!

Parents Need to Know

According to our survey, 94% of children in Borras use YouTube. Here's how to stay safe using it.

DIGITAL HERO TRAINING

On Wednesday 22nd June, we completed our Digital Hero training with Ema from Digital Communities Wales. We used Popplet as part of our activities to answer questions about using devices, accessibility, online safety, creating secure passwords and how to interact with people in the community who may not have digital confidence. We had fun testing how secure our passwords were and how long it would take to hack. Test the strength of your password using the following website

We paired up to complete an activity to instruct our partner to complete a digital tasks using the simplest vocabulary. This was great practise for when we work with members of the community.

WORD OF THE TERM

Each issue we will teach you a new word of 'tech'. It may be a word you already know but we hope we can teach you some new facts about it. This issue's word of the term follows on from Code Fest Week's talk with Hayley Laidlow-Wilson and comes in the form of ' Artificial Intelligence'.

Artifical Intelligence

Artificial intelligence - or AI for short - is technology that enables a computer to think or act in a more 'human' way. It does this by taking in information from its surroundings, and deciding its response based on what it learns or senses.

LEGO, AQUAPONICS AND FRAPUCCINOS

Last week Tuesday 5th the digital leaders went on a trip to Xplore and Starbucks after. At Xplore we did a Lego workshop where we had to build a Lego lion and code it to make it roar, stand up, and lay down. After that we ate lunch play around for a little bit then did the Aquaponics workshop where we did a quiz about how much food is wasted and if we will have enough food to feed everyone in 2050 etc. Then we talked about Farm Urban which is a a community of people growing plants on special walls with lighting and even using fishes to help all sorts of fruit and veg to grow. After having tons of fun at Xplore we went to Starbucks to have our nice drinks.
