Investing in Our Workforce

We invested in the mental health and substance use treatment workforce through leadership programs, practice improvement trainings, new partnerships and NatCon22.

Delivering Thought Leadership

We hosted more than 5,000 health care professionals for three days of learning, networking and entertainment at NatCon22, the largest conference in mental health and substance use treatment. Our first in-person event in three years, NatCon22 gave attendees the opportunity to network with likeminded peers, earn continuing education credits, hear from the best minds in health care and discover new strategies for service delivery.

Training Health Care Leaders

We continued our investment in health care leaders by training 475 managers through our Middle Management Academy. We also led a Trauma-informed, Recovery-oriented Systems of Care (TI-ROSC) Community Transformation Academy and Behavioral Health Training Institute for Health Officials, while delivering consultations on Motivational Interviewing, Whole Health Action Management (WHAM), Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and Case to Care Management.

Introducing Workforce Solutions

Across the span of three months, we partnered with 30 integrated care organizations to support their development and implementation of innovative solutions to address workforce barriers resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand for integrated mental health, substance use treatment and general health services. Through our groundbreaking Workforce Innovations Learning Collaborative, we introduced new workplace solutions that cross cultural, geographical and population-specific barriers.

Growing the Workforce

Together with Health Management Associates, we created three issue briefs that offer immediate actions states can take to expand current capacity and build a more stable future mental health and substance use treatment workforce. We also partnered with Triad to launch Jobs Marketplace – an online recruitment solution that makes hiring in health care easier – and share exam prep, career tools and community resources.
