Class 7 Learning Journey Spring 2

LIRA

Firstly, we explored the book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.

We focused on the vocabulary used in the text and we did a lot of work on author intent.

Next, we explored the story of 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman.

We explored the relationships between the different characters and how the author has chosen to present these characters.

Literacy

This half term, we have been writing a biography all about David Hockney and his artwork.

We have focused on:

  • The features of a biography
  • The use of third person
  • Time connectives
  • Expanded noun phrases
  • Fronted adverbials
  • Apostrophes of possession

Maths

This half term, Class 6 maths class have been focusing on fractions, perimeter, time and mass. Class 7 and 8 maths class have been focusing on arithmetic, time, statistics and measure.

We have continued to complete bi-weekly arithmetic tests and we are really pleased with our progress.

Topic

Our focus for this half term has been art where we have been learning about painting landscapes. Throughout, we have explored David Hockney's artwork including his famous landscapes of the Yorkshire countryside. We have focused on a variety of artistic skills such as:

  • The use of tints and shades
  • How primary and secondary colours mix to create tertiary colours
  • Creating texture with different paintbrushes

We put all of our new knowledge and skills together to create our own landscape inspired by the work of David Hockney.

Science

In Science, we have been learning all about electricity!

We explored how electricity is formed, the difference between alternating and direct currents, conductors and insulators, the components of electrical circuits, and why we need switches.

RSHE

This half term, we have been further exploring respect and close, positive relationships.

As part of this, we looked into:

  • The features of a caring relationship
  • How to identify healthy relationships
  • What makes people unique
  • How to show respect for peoples similarities and differences
  • How to make others feel included and supported

Things to celebrate

Easter performance

Class 7 loved practicing and performing our Easter performance 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Camelot' for everyone. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

World book day

We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters!

Athlete visit

We had fun exercising and listening to Sean Gaffney's story as a part of this years athlete visit.

Mapplewell points

A few of our children surpassed 50 points this half term and went to the prize shop. Well done Class 7!

Being utterly fabulous

Class 7 have done some incredible work this half term, alongside rehearsing for their performance. We are very proud of them and I'm sure you are too!
