Literacy
During Literacy this half term, we have focused on informal letter writing.
We used skills such as persuasive devices, conjunctions, range of punctuation and a variety of sentence starters. These helped us to write a letter to Charlie's mum and dad to persuade them to come and live in the chocolate factory.
We thought carefully about how we would feel if we were in Charlie's position and reflected on this in our final outcome.
We have continued to really impress Miss Dakin and Mrs Copeland with our determination and resilience to write some fantastic pieces for our writing portfolio.
As part of our unit of work, we were lucky enough to take a trip to Cadbury World. We participated in a number of different activities including a creative writing workshop where children were able to apply their literacy skills.
Maths
In maths this half term, we recapped all four operations and worked on written methods. We then applied our skills to problem-solving and reasoning questions.
We have also worked on measures, geometry and statistics.
We have shown the school values of resilience and independence when working hard to improve our arithmetic scores! It's great to see so many of our pupils continuing to strive to be the best they can! Keep it up!
Topic
This half term, our focus area for topic has been Design and Technology. In our topic Sew Simple, we designed and made a Christmas themed t-shirt.
In our lessons, we have explored and gathered different ideas for our final outcomes. We selected suitable materials through testing and discussion.
We learned about and practiced different types of stitching as well as exploring a range of textiles to add detail to our designs.
We then applied all of our new skills to create some fabulous Christmas themed t-shirts that we are extremely proud of.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our fashion show where the children showed off their t-shirts and work that they have been doing!
