Content Info For The Week

Math (Swindell, Beasley, and Meeks):

Students will begin Unit 1 with angle relationships. Students will complete a graphic organizer to use as a reference throughout the unit. Students will spend this week identifying angle relationships, finding missing angles, and solving for x.

Algebra I (Meeks):

Students will quiz over triangle theorems and angle relationships on Monday. The rest of the week will spent on transformations.

ELA (Styron and Bright):

This week students will continue activities in workshop 7 and will analyze what is clearly stated in the text and infer what is not clearly stated, & engage in collaborative discussions on topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and clearly expressing personal perspectives, analyze the development of a central idea and supporting details over the course of a text & use academic language, such as relevant details, to ask and answer questions about central ideas and essential details in an informational text, Identify word families for new vocabulary and identify and use suffixes to help determine word meaning, Engage in collaborative discussions on topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and clearly expressing personal perspectives, and speak in complete sentences to provide detail and clarification

ELA (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will watch segments of the documentary "Louder Than A Bomb" so that they can see examples of slam poetry. We will continue reviewing elements of poetry and narratives in preparation for our class novel "Long Way Down."

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, we will continue our study of Homer's The Odyssey. We will examine how to determine reliability and credibility in outside sources, as well as how a tragic flaw can impact the epic hero. Students will participate in their first Socratic Seminar of the year.

Science (Carver and Lewis):

Students will be exploring convection, conduction, and radiation next week. Students will participate in a task card activity to demonstrate their knowledge over this week's topic. We plan to do a fun hands on marshmallow activity. We are asking for donation of big marshmallows, hershey chocolate bars, and graham crackers. Supplies need to be turned in by August 24th. Thank you for helping us support our scholars.

Social Studies (MacArthur and Lewis):

This week, students will begin their final project for unit 1: Regions of Georgia. Students will put themselves in a zombie apocalypse scenario, and plan an escape route from Pembroke, to one of the Northern Regions of Georgia. Students will have the choice of building a topographical map, a video, infographic, or prezi slides. This will be their first test grade of the semester, and it will be due this Friday, August 26th.
