Sightsavers Voices Virtual Exhibition

Sightsavers works in more than 30 countries to prevent avoidable blindness and fight for the rights of people with disabilities. We treat eye conditions such as cataracts and tackle debilitating diseases, many of which cause sight loss. To do this, we work with governments and local, national, and international partners to carry out eye operations and distribute treatments where they’re needed. We also advocate for the rights of people with visual impairments and other disabilities and help to improve local health services so they are sustainable.

Gender equality: girls with disabilities in education

Every child has the right to education, but children with disabilities, especially girls, are missing out. We estimated that 33 million children with disabilities in low- and lower-middle-income countries are currently out of school – and during the pandemic the barriers they face have only increased. The following articles and reports amplify the work that Sightsavers is doing to address the barriers girls with disabilities face.

Disability inclusion has been a neglected, under-prioritized issue in international development. There is a lack of evidence around what works in practice to deliver inclusion, which contributes to difficulty in building effective programmes.
