The power of photojournalism is undeniable. Editorial images capture the vital issues of our time, from human rights to climate change, immigration, politics, entertainment, and beyond. The photographs tell stories of people from around the world in a wide variety of circumstances; from joy to great sadness, from sports to conflict and everything in between. These images are a reflection of our trials, tribulations, and progress as a species, and play an integral role in building our understanding of the world and of each other.
With the growing importance of editorial images in mind, Adobe Stock launched the Editorial collection in partnership with Reuters. “Reuters’ comprehensive and vital coverage of world events is the mainstay of our current editorial offering and their highly talented team of photographers and photo editors ensures that our customers have access to some of the best photojournalism in the world,” said Santiago Lyon, Adobe’s Director of Editorial Content.
With 2018 coming to a close, Reuters has curated a selection of the best images from all the news, events, and stories they covered over the course of the year.
How are the most powerful images of the year selected? Balance between photographic impact and journalistic relevance is critical, as well as emotional impact and socio-political or cultural relevance. With nearly 750,000 Reuters photographs in a year to choose from, the process is complex and ongoing throughout the year.
