Skills Centre Program

Overview

  • Focuses on individual player development
  • Weekly training program from April to October (off in July) to complement existing team-based activities
  • Led by our Club Technical Coaches & Sports Performance Coaches
  • Training groups are organized by age & ability level
  • Open to U8-U16 players

Program Outcomes

Participants will be:

More confident on the ball

Execute improved techniques

Make better decisions in a game

Improve their agility, coordination and speed

Curriculum

The training session will have three core components:

Individual ball mastery

Technique development

Athletic development

The training session will be divided into three segments, with players receiving 18-20 minutes of time focusing on each of the three core components.

How to Join Us

Players will be organized into appropriate, like-level groups for training. Group sizes will be capped, and training will be 60 minutes.

The program will begin in April, running through the month of October (off for the month of July)

Specific program schedules will be communicated in advance of the program start date. For 2023, the program will be on Mondays @ George Nelms Sports Park. Wednesday nights will serve as a secondary day for players with game-night conflicts in season (May-August)

Players do not need to be from within the OSU Force Academy to sign up. The programs are open to all competitive players.

Players will register in Demosphere to their appropriate age group & team level. The program cost is $75.00/monthly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Section

How do the Skills Centres work with team events?

The Skills Centre Programs will be offered at non-conflicting times to team training. In the event that the Skills Centre Program coincides with your game night, the club will offer an alternative night.

How will players be organized?

Players will be grouped by age & ability level. The coaches will adapt groups to optimize the group size and appropriate level of challenge for each participant.

Who will be leading the Skills Centre Programs?

Our Club Technical Coaches will be responsible for delivering the Skills Centre Programs. The Sports Performance training that is incorporated into the delivery will be led by Titan Sports Performance - Joey Kwasniewski

When does the program run?

The program will begin in April and run until the end of October. The program will break for the month of July.

What is the difference between the Skills Centre Programs & Centre of Excellence (COE)?

The Skills Centre Programs are a new offering, targeted towards ages and team levels which are not currently part of the COE stream. The COE program remains in effect, as an embedded team based event within the U11-U17 Black team program.
