#8 Women's Ice Hockey Tops Huskies, Beacons, and Polar Bears

The Women's Ice Hockey team opened the season with three wins on the week, defeating USM 7-2, UMass Boston 3-0, and coming up victorious in their first matchup with Bowdoin 4-1.

Meg Rittenhouse paced the Mules with three goals and five assists across the three games. McKinley Karpa recorded an assist in each match, and Tate Senden was named the Codfish Bowl MVP (hosted by UMass Boston) with two goals and an assist in the tournament championship game against Bowdoin.

Paige Bolyard collected 46 saves in 150 minutes (two and a half games) between the pipes, allowing only one goal.

Colby runs its record to 3-0 to open the 2022-23 season. Lining up with Bowdoin in the tournament final sets the two rivals up to play three games in seven days with a home-and-home series approaching this weekend.

Rittenhouse earned NESCAC Player of the Week and ranks first in the conference with eight points.

Men's Ice Hockey Blanks UMass Boston, Comes Back Against JWU

In the opener of the Colby/Bowdoin Classic, the Mules blanked the visiting Beacons of UMass Boston 3-0. Andy Beran was perfect in net, turning away all 28 shots for his first shutout of the season.

On Sunday, Colby fell behind JWU by two goals before rebounding for three of their own to pull out a 3-2 victory. Carter Breitenfeldt and John McElaney collected assists on the first two goals as the Mules pulled even, and Clay Korpi and Will Molson found Tyler Crist for the game winner late in the second frame.

Colby is 4-0 to start the year, currently ranked one point out of first place in the NESCAC.

Winter Sports Celebration - Dec. 3

Mark your calendars—Colby’s annual Hockey Night is expanding into a Winter Sports Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Cheer on our Mules in ice hockey, basketball, swimming and diving, and squash, and join us as we formally dedicate three new spaces: the Jack Kelley Rink, the O’Neil | O’Donnell Forum, and the Margaret M. Crook Center. All events will take place in the state-of-the-art Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center.

Men's Basketball Runs Streak to Six at Salve Regina

The Men's Basketball team took to the road after the holiday to take on the Seahawks of Salve Regina. Pacing out to a 40-27 halftime lead, the Mules were able to hold off a late push by the hosts to net their sixth straight win to open the 2022-23 season 73-69.

Noah Tyson led Colby with 19 points, going 5 of 8 from behind the arc. Jonah Obi collected his second double-double of the season, with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Colby is now 6-0 heading into December.

Women's Basketball Falls to NYU

In their lone game of the holiday week, Colby traveled to the Empire State to take on an NYU team that is currently ranked 3rd in the country. Both teams entered the contest undefeated on the season.

Behind a stifling defense, the hosts pulled away early and delivered Colby its first loss of the year 80-37. Caroline Smith, Gabrielle Hemenes, and Bray Hunter paced the Mules with seven points apiece, while Hemenes held the team lead with six rebounds.

Colby is now 3-1 on the season.

Football Places Five on All-NESCAC Team

After earning only one all-conference selection in 2021, the Colby Football team collected five selections with a stellar 2022 season. Only Trinity, Tufts, Wesleyan, and Middlebury had more athletes named to the team, with the 9-0 Bantams leading the way with 14 selections.

Donatio was tied for second in the conference in interceptions and landed in the top-20 for tackles from his safety position.
Young averaged over 10 tackles per contest, ranking second in the NESCAC with 92 total stops.
Dougherty ranked fifth in the league with 70 total tackles, recording nine tackles in games against Trinity, Wesleyan, Amherst and Middlebury.
Smart was Colby's leading rusher and also ranked just outside the top-10 in the NESCAC in receptions.
Carr recorded the longest punt in the conference this year, blasting a 67-yarder in the opener against Williams. He paced the league in punts over 50 yards and fair catches forced, and ranked third for punt average.
