A message from Mr Hoffmann
Dear Parents and carers,
Welcome to our summer Budmouth Academy newsletter, I hope you are well and looking forward to a break over the summer period.
What a wonderful year it has been and this one seems to have sped by in a flash. One reason it seems to go so quickly is because of how much we manage to fit into a single day here at Budmouth Academy. This year we have out over 100 clubs or activities and taken part in over 180 fixtures. This term has been no exception, with Sports Day, our Summer Showcase, Sports Presentation Evening, Work Experience Week, Year 11 Prom and Year 13 Leaver Dinner dominating our busy calendar. Sports Day was won once again by Attenborough School, although all of the students deserve credit for the fantastic levels of support and participation on show.
Extra-curricular activities really help students develop their sense of self-worth, and being part of a team event is really good for our young people’s mental health, which is why we try to encourage students to take part in something bigger than themselves. It also helps keep students in engaged in the school community. Currently our year 10 are out on Work Experience Duties and it is great to see students challenging themselves. Some students are working as far afield as London or working for giant multinational firms, and working like this, outside of their comfort zone is a challenge that enables students to experience a different perspective and it can potentially open doors for their future. Work Experience and activities like the Edge and Duke of Edinburgh make a huge impact on our students’ sense of pride and purpose, and what more could we ask of our students than that they give things a go.

Please enjoy the Summer edition of this newsletter and if you would like to know more about what we have to offer drop us a line or give us a call.
The Aspirations Edge
At the Budmouth Academy we believe that there should be a clear and consistent focus on all students’ aspirations – their dreams, hopes, goals and their present efforts to reach those goals. Our core belief is that we should inspire all students to dream about the future and inspire them in the present to work towards those dreams. These efforts are fostered through the 3 Guiding Principles – Self-Worth, Engagement and Purpose – and the 8 Conditions that help drive each of the Guiding Principles.
The Aspirations Edge is a programme that we have designed to encourage all students to engage in activities that will help develop the 8 conditions, as well as developing key skills such as resilience, initiative and communication. For many students they will already be engaged in activities that are linked to the Guiding Principles, so this programme provides them with an opportunity to build their own digital portfolio. For many others they may well need more direction and the encouragement and support to engage in activities that will foster the 8 Conditions. The programme has four levels (Apprentice, Pioneer, Graduate and Master) and each student is able to work through the levels at their own speed and in their own time. Here are some examples of the activities completed by two students in Year 7 last term.
Students in Years 7-9 will receive an Aspirations Edge session once a week as part of their tutor programme and this might involve the opportunity to add activities to their digital profiles. Students in Years 10-11 do have access to the programme and are encouraged to speak to Mr David if they are interested in finding out more about it.
If you ever need any further information or support do not hesitate to contact Mr David at andydavid@aspirationsacademies.org

Sportsday 2023!
We have had a fantastic morning with so many students taking part in track and field events. We have also been running teamwork games for each School to try and acheive extra positive points. It is fantastic to see such high numbers of participation and we look forward to the afternoon events!
Sports Presentation Evening
Congratulations to everyone that attended our 2023 Sports Presentation Evening. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward individual achievements and to thank the PE team for all their hard work this year. Thank you to the live band and our special guest Archie Harris who spoke incredibly well. What stood out were the messages about how sport always provides setbacks, the most important thing is HOW you respond to setbacks. It is also incredibly important to achieve the best grades possible to give yourself the best opportunities if you don't make a career in sport. Archie achieved nine 9's at GCSE so clearly never lost his focus in the classroom. We wish him all the very best for the next stage in his career after signing a professional contract with Bournemouth.
Thank you to everyone that attended.
CCF Year 8 recruitment Day
All Year 8 students were off timetable completing a range of activities to see what cadets at Budmouth CCF get up to.
We had visitors from the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, Royal Tank Regiment Veterans and serving Army Soldiers and Royal Navy Sailors , who challenged our students to try a variety of activities such as shelter building, sailing boat rigging, observation challenge and watching our cadets take part in the Field Gun run
SW Dorset Area Beach Volleyball Tournament
Three teams across our Y9s and Y10s competed in the first ever SW Dorset Area Beach Volleyball Tournament today, with one team finishing overall 2nd place (Tate, Freya, Sullie & Maraia) out of 16 teams.
A super afternoon on the sands - engagement, purpose and self-worth in 'bucket' loads! Well done to all involved and thank you to all of the organisers.
