Football Tournament Report by Tomas B and Evan

There were 16 teams, 4 teams in each group. Each game was 10 minutes long, the groups were A,B,C and D. We were in group A with Yr Hafod A, Maes–Y-Mynydd A ,Brynteg. In this report we will tell you all about the football tournament and how we came 8th. Football, which was invented in 1863, is one of if not the best sport ever. The question is: how did we perform in the tournament?

The lineups were:

  • Evan GK
  • Razey CB
  • BaileyCB
  • Isaac CB
  • Tomas CDM
  • Jude Cm/ST
  • Lily LM
  • Leo LM
  • Luke RM
  • Thom ST

Match 1: Minera 1-0 Brynteg. The goal scorer was Thom.

Match 2: Maes-y-Mynydd 0-1 Minera. Goalscorer: Luke.

Match 3: Minera 0-0 Yr Hafod A.

This was the group stage but it didn't matter where you placed because everyone went through to the round of 16 . We came in 2nd in the group losing 1st because of goal difference.

In the round of 16 we played Barker’s Lane and unfortunately lost 1-0. It was a tough match: we should have won. Coincidentally, Barker's Lane made it to the final. From then on we had friendlies. The first friendly was against Maes -Y-Mynydd B; we won 2-0 and Jude scored both goals. Then we played Brynteg and we lost 2-1; Jude scored the goal. At the end we all watched the final that was Barkers Lane vs Yr Hafod A, Johnstown. In the final, the winner was yr Hafod A who ended up winning 2-0.

In conclusion, we did well but not good enough to win the tournament and Yr Hafod A won the whole thing. All the matches were tough and all of them were fun and we won a few games. Overall the tournament was very fun for all the teams who came to play in the Euros .

Keeping Hydrated - Drinking Water

It is really important to keep hydrated during the school day. We encourage pupils to bring water bottles to school. Recently, we have noticed a number of Prime bottles coming into school with water in them. Please can water be brought into school in either a sports bottle or a clear plastic bottle. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

Parents Evening

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Parents Evening earlier this week. If anyone did not attend and would like an appointment, please contact your child's class teacher to arrange an alternative appointment.

Thank you for your continued support,

Universal Free School Meals for Years 1 and 2

Since September, all children in reception classes across Wales have been able to have free meals at school, and from April Universal Primary Free School Meals will be rolled out to all Year 1 and 2 pupils in Wrexham as well. This is the second stage of the Welsh Government's response to the rising cost-of-living pressures on families, tackling child poverty and ensuring no child goes hungry in school. The same offer will be available to Years 3 to 6 from September 2023.

Does your child already receive Free School Meals?

If your child currently receives Free School Meals based on your circumstances, you may also be entitled to additional help through the Pupil Development Grant, which includes financial support for uniform, sports equipment and devices. To access this year’s scheme, please click on the following link https://www.gov.wales/school-essentials-grant#_blank

Has your financial situation changed in the last year?

If your child is not currently receiving Free School Meals, but your circumstances have changed this year, Wrexham might have support available for you. To check if you are eligible for Free School Meals, visit https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/school-meals/free-school-meals#_blank.  If you are eligible, you may also be able to receive the Pupil Development Grant.

As the summer term approaches, we are urging parents and carers to apply for the support they're entitled to.

Coedpoeth Library Visit

Children in Year 1 to Year 6 will revisit Coedpoeth library on Friday 31st March to exchange the books they took out in the Autumn term. Each child will each be able to take out a book that will be kept in school and can be swapped with other children in class. We will then return to the library again in the Summer term to return the books and take out new ones. The books will be taken out on a class library card so please do not send any personal library cards with children.

Author Visit by Damian Harvey

Our visit from author Damian Harvey has been rearranged for the first week back after the Easter break. Damian will work with all classes sharing his stories, performing and supporting children with writing stories.

After school, from 3:05 p.m., Damian will be signing and selling books. We are extremely grateful to Minera Community Council for funding this fantastic experience for us
