Puppy Mills and Pet Stores Jane Woo

Summary:

Puppy mills are essentially a factory that produces the most amount of puppies in the shortest amount of time. Medical care is denied and these dogs are in a constant cycle of pregnancy and birth. The one concern that these mill owners have is profit.

How did I get here?

At first, my transition into vegetarianism was how I first became aware of the truth behind puppy mills. It didn't bother me much because although my dog most likely came from a puppy mill, he is happy and healthy. That's all that mattered. But a couple months ago, my friend told me that he got a new pet. The whole family fell in love with the puppy the second they saw her through the glass of their local pet store. Before she even got named, she had been to the hospital and back twice. Twice before she got named. She was alive for two weeks.

How does it relate to me on a personal level?

As mentioned above, my dog was most likely born on a puppy mill. It saddens me to even think about the fact that he was also probably ripped away from his mother the second he was born. My friends story about how he never even got a real experience with his dog really broke my heart because my dog is the most precious living thing on this planet.

What do I want to accomplish?

I want people to stop supporting puppy mills. But that is a reality that is is too good to be true. What I can do is educate to end and encourage people to adopt instead of buying a puppy online or from a pet store.

Why should you consider it?

Because of the inhumane treatment of dogs and your tax money is used for kennel inspections and court costs that go into trying animal neglect and abuse cases.
