Tignes/Val-d'Isère April 2023

Tignes and Val-d'Isère are two combined ski resorts that are located in one of the highest areas in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The area hosts some of the best skiing in the world due to the abundance of snow and low temperatures that extends the ski season well into the spring. The two resorts are well communicated with about 300km (190 miles) of ski runs with 78 ski lifts.

The original town of Tignes was flooded when Chevril Dam was built in 1952. There are four villages that make up what is the current, modern day Tignes. Each town is well connected by roads and gondolas. Tignes-Le Lac and Val Claret are excellent places to stay for a week at an aparthotel.

From Val Claret, the Funicular Percée Niege zips up to the base of Glacier de la Grande Motte in just a few minutes. The views are magnificent and the skiing is fantastic. There is a large cable car from there that takes you to the highest point of the resort, La Grande Motte at 3656m.

One of the most iconic images of Tignes is L’Aiguille Percée. The arch rock formation is fantastic and actually easily accessible and worthy of visiting.

With a base of 450cm of snow and 300km of skiable terrain, there are just so many options that it's hard to grasp. Expansive views of virgin, pristine snow is nothing less than spellbinding.

You don't have to finish skiing to enjoy the Apres Ski scene. Val-d'Isère has one of the most insane party scenes at La Folie Douce, right in the middle of some of the most amazing skiing terrain.

Just a 15-minute drive from Tignes 1800 is the luxurious village of Val-d'Isère. The Exclusive boutiques and five-star hotels ooze "posh". The village is well known being an exclusive getaway for the elite. The rustic wood-clad chalets and black gondolas are quite a contrast.

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France has hosted the Winter Olympics three times in Chamonix, Grenoble, and Albertville.
