UMD Bulldogs BRAND OVERVIEW

Our mission as the University of Minnesota Duluth athletic program is to create a strong sense of pride amongst Bulldog Country through academic superiority, strength in community and competitive excellence. We represent the Three C's: CLASSROOM. COMPETITION. COMMUNITY

CLASSROOM

UMD's 400+ student-athletes posted a collective GPA of 3.44 (all-time record) during the 2020-21 academic year.

The Chancellor's Cup, given each year to the team with the highest overall GPA, was awarded to the Volleyball team, who registered a 3.76 GPA. Women's Cross Country came in a close second, with a 3.75 overall GPA in 2021-22.

Bulldog student-athletes have now surpassed the 3.10 GPA mark collectively in each of the last 19 semesters.

Over 200 UMD student-athletes qualified for a spot on the NSIC All-Academic Team at some point in 2021-22.

COMPETITION

The Bulldogs are just the third school in the past 50 years to win back-to-back NCAA men's hockey championships (2018 & 2019).

The Bulldogs had six teams quality for NCAA tournament play in 2021-22: men's hockey, women's hockey, women's cross country, football, women's basketball, and men's basketball.

UMD Women's Hockey was national runner-up.

UMD Women's Basketball hoisted the NSIC tournament trophy that gave them an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

Both UMD Men's Hockey and UMD Women's Hockey along with Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball reached the NCAA Tournament in the same season for the first time.

COMMUNITY

Bulldog student-athletes continued their work with the NSIC's Green Bandana Project this year, hosting mental health awareness games at all sport games this past year..

UMD was recognized with the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence for their work in volunteerism and community engagement.

UMD's Team Impact Award went to the UMD Women's Tennis team with 18 hours per student-athlete of volunteering the community. The Bulldog Women's Soccer team was our runner-up with an average of 14 hours per student-athlete.

MEDIA COVERAGE AND REACH

UMD Bulldog media coverage and exposure has increased exponentially. This upcoming year will once again feature a record number of Bulldog events being aired on TV, radio, or online. Over the last 10 years UMD has seen a 50%+ growth in media exposure for broadcasted games.

  • Nationally televised games on CBS Sports (55 million homes) (men's hockey)
  • Regionally televised games on Bally Sports North (2.1 million homes) (men's and women's hockey)
  • Locally televised men's hockey, football, women's hockey, and volleyball games on My9 Sports (168,000 homes) (all home games for men's hockey and football)
  • Expanded coverage across the state of Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin with the Bulldog Radio Network
  • Every UMD athletic event (excluding nationally televised games) is streamed online on the NSIC Network, NCHC.tv, or FloHockey.
