Reception Autumn Term 2 Learning journey what a magiCal time of year we had so many things to celebrate.

We started the term by celebrating bonfire night and discussing the past events in the City of London and why we celebrate bonfire night.

During the holidays, the children received a clue to what we would be learning about when we returned to school.

Our children love learning our poems, this time it was Remember, Remember the fifth of November.

We also found out the meaning of new words such as plot and treason. It’s so important to learn new vocabulary.

We enjoyed creating our own firework pictures.

Outdoors we made a bonfire, imagined we were roasting our conkers and developed our mark making through chalking pictures of fireworks.

We created our own firework art on the iPads, showing good control to draw each part.

Look at our concentration.

We also celebrated Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. It’s good to find out about different religious celebrations.

We created our own rangoli patterns.

We also thought about different patterns using a range of resources, creating spirals with play dough, drawing our own patterns and creating patterns with shapes.

We listened to and acted out the story of Rama and Sita. We designed our own mehndi patterns and used rice and sand to create rangoli patterns.

We used lots of different skills when making our diva lamp using clay.

We created a finished product by adding paint and sequins.

We remembered all the soldiers who lost their lives during the Wars on Poppy Day.

. Learning about the past is so important and we also showed respect towards others when we were part of the two minute silence.

We watched the CBeebies Poppy story, made our own poppies and used our fine motor skills to thread tiny beads and made a stem for our poppy.

Creating our poppies to go on the whole school display.

Poppies were even celebrated outdoors.

Creating our army soldiers.

Lots of soldiers who we remembered on Poppy Day.

Pudsey bear fundraising day

We celebrated Pudsey bear day and gave to children who need help our support by donating money. We really showed the importance of our school value kindness.

We had a fun day with lots of Pudsey activities.

Celebrating our writing and mark making

Linked to bonfire night, we watched Fireman Sam’s Firework safety videos.

We created our own text map to write a set of instructions.

Filling the stocking.
Santa eagerly waiting for his presents.

In our role play we created a Santa’s workshop, wrapped and delivered presents and made a list of the children who we needed to send presents to.

Taking turns to be Santa and waiting patiently.
I need to deliver presents today to all these wonderful children,

We labelled our amazing Lego creations.

We enjoyed writing cards at school to our friends.

We enjoyed doing lots of writing linked to a Christmas .

We are amazing mathematicians, let’s celebrate our learning in maths.

Great team work.

We challenged ourselves to recognise odd and even numicon shapes. The number one was a little tricky to decide where it went.

We added the numerals into the correct heading in our table.

Sorting odd and even numbers

We enjoy applying our maths skills in the environment. We count, find number bonds and one more and one less.

I have five conkers but you only have one that’s 6 altogether.
Three add one more is four.
I’ve got five pumpkins, it’s in a numicon shape.
I’ve made three mince pies.

Let is snow, let it snow.

We really enjoyed the snow falling down in our class. We worked collaboratively to build our snow reindeer who was perched proudly on the storytelling chair. We rescued the sea animals from the frozen ice. Then we sent delivers of ice and snow to the indoor area to make ice cakes and talk about the change we saw.

Let the Christmas celebrations begin.

It’s been a busy half term, learning the nativity story, singing our songs, making cards, calendars and decorations. Listening to some amazing people reading stories, joining in the Rudolph run and eating Christmas dinner and celebrating.

Our Christmas Nativity

Our rehearsal photographs

The Christmas story was brought to life in our amazing nursery rhyme nativity. There was silence in the Church whilst our narrators spoke clearly, our songs were sang with confidence and our actors performed their role brilliantly.

Four very proud teachers, one very proud headteacher and a congregation of proud parents. Thank you to Father Tim and the Church for allowing us to celebrate this special time at St John’s Church.

Some lovely comments from our parents, we were so pleased you could enjoy this wonderful memory of your child’s first nativity.

Rudolph Run to raise money for Barnsley hospice.

The children enjoyed their run and celebrated their achievements with a drink and biscuits. Thank you so much for your efforts with collecting sponsorship money . There is so much kindness being shared.

We also enjoyed our Christmas dinner and party.

Take a look at some of the Christmas gifts your children have made to bring home.

Cards, calendars, reindeer dust, reindeer hot chocolate, a Christmas pudding bauble and many lovely Christmas memories to share with you.

A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to read a Christmas story to our class.

Thank you so much, here are a few of our special guests.

What happening in our class in Spring 1 2022?

We will be starting with a winter adventure in our theme of Frozen

We will be finding out about different animals and life in cold countries. Reading and making non-fiction books will link to our theme.

We will be learning some new poems including from poetry basket, Let’s put on our mittens.

In creating with materials we will be developing our designing and making skills, thinking about how to join materials together. We may also be designing something for someone special.

In maths we will further our knowledge of number bonds, through play and songs, as well as focusing on writing numbers and working on odd and even numbers and one less.

A huge thank you once again for your amazing support, positive comments and sharing your amazing children with us, we are so lucky. One thing remains to say and that’s for us to wish you a very Happy Christmas.
