Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week children have been learning about how to stay safe online as part of Safer Internet Day. Technology can be a wonderful thing – helping people who are far apart to communicate and supporting children in their learning, opening up a whole new world! However, it is important that we support our children in how to use technology safely. The children made some fantastic contributions and showed they had a good understanding of how to stay safe on line and some of the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’. We have posted a guide on our Twitter page to support parents with ensuring their children stay safe. Please follow us on Twitter @WMPrimary for this and other regular school updates. It is the best way to find out about school life on a daily basis.
On Monday 14th February, we will be having a special Valentine’s Italian themed school lunch. Children can choose from Pizza, Quorn Spaghetti Bolognese or jacket potato. Children can order their dinner on the day as normal. It would be great to have those children who normally bring a packed lunch joining us in having a school dinner for this special day! All EYFS and KS1 pupils are provided with Universal free school meals and Key Stage 2 children can pay on ParentPay as normal.
We have had some issues where our children in school are sharing what they have seen online on platforms such as TikTok in class. Some of the content that children are sharing is not appropriate for their age group. Please be aware of what your children are watching on such platforms and do not hesitate to contact us if you would like support at home to ensure devices have appropriate filters on them.
A reminder that we break up for half term on Thursday 17th February as Friday 18th February is an INSET training day for staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 28th February.
Please keep supporting your children at home with their reading, spellings and arithmetic work which is set on Google Classrooms each week. This gives children a good opportunity to practice what they have learnt in school each week.
Next week in school is Arts Week. Children will be studying different artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Vincent Van Gogh, Antony Gormley and Yorkshire’s very own Henry Moore. Look out on Twitter for some of their amazing work.
Every Monday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life.
