We wanted to find out about graffiti as we have some in our school. We tried to make welcome posters in the style of graffiti. We entered a competition with our posters. Please keep your fingers crossed that we win!
Who are we?
Pwy ydyn ni?
During our independent challenge time we painted self portraits.
We've been exploring photography during this term. In one of our challenges we took pictures of our friends using a range of angles.
Then, we made self portraits in the style of pop art.
What is special about our school?
We realised that our school is a very special shape! We went out exploring and made drawings of the school using chalks. We decided for ourselves how we wanted to draw the school. Can you see the animals in one of our pictures?
After that, we used our photography skills to take pictures of our special school. We were challenged to use a range of camera angles.
Some of us wanted to write some facts about our school on our own!
We then used these facts to write reports about our special school. What do you think of them?
We have one of the best views not only in Swansea but in the whole of Wales. We have been trying to capture it. What do you think? Do you agree it is the best view in Swansea? First of all, we sketched what we can see from our school. Can you spot any of the special landmarks?
Then we turned our sketches into collages. We looked at the work of Caroline Rees who lives in the Gower. She uses paper to capture what she can see through her window.
After that, we used the skills we had learnt to make collages of our school during our independent challenge time.
We looked at maps of our school and then labelled what we could recognise. Some did this by writing labels while others recorded videos.
After looking carefully at the map of our school, we decided to make our own maps using materials around the classroom. Can you find the school? Can you see the road?
We decided we would like to make models of our homes. We worked in small groups to make our houses using cardboard.
Finally, we discussed 'natural' and 'manmade' landmarks which we could see from our school. We thought about why they were important.
Sea View's Learning Superheroes
We have four superheroes who help us to learn. They help us to be the best we can be!
Watch the video below to find out more information about our Learning Superheroes.
They have been hiding around the school looking to see what learning is taking place in our school. Luckily, we managed to take pictures of them.
During our independent challenges we have been completing lots of work about the superheroes.
We decided to make posters to help us recognise the different superheroes. We really took our time to make them awesome!
We even described them in Welsh!
Year 1 classroom
We made information videos to help new pupils navigate the classroom.
We labelled maps of our classroom using Seesaw.
Values
We discussed what values are the most important for our class. Do you agree with the order we placed them?
Year 1 Teachers
We love our teachers very much. We decided we wanted to draw our teachers and say why we liked them.
Our Class Song
We were challenged by the superheroes to make a class song. We decided we needed to practise composing songs!
Would you like to listen some of our songs?
We then used a programme called 'Kandinsky' which allowed us to make music by drawing pictures.
