Nestled high above in the Andorran Pyrenees Mountains is the Pyrenees largest ski resort. Grandvalira connects the seven sectors of Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Peretol, Grau Roig, and Pas de la Casa; "pie de pistas" on the valley floor by gondolas and lifts with over 210 km (130 miles) of ski runs and 118 slopes. Despite being in the middle of a serious drought, most of the runs were groomed and open with 50-110 cm base.
All the villages of the Pyrenees have a distinct rustic charm and are built from stones to last an eternity. Canillo is not only well preserved and beautifully restored with modern architectural lighting, the high quality details make it remarkably stylish and cool.
Hotel Ski Plaza Andorra is a great ski hotel with excellent breakfast, lovely rooms, and an unbelievable heated ski storage room with tools and even a power washer. The modernist paintings are fantastic too.
