Peter Minuit was the founder of Delaware. H e was apart of the New Sweden Company. It then became apart of The Duke of York's land, until he leased it to William Penn in 1664. Delaware was apart of Pennsylvania until 1703 where it became its own colony. It was governed, how ever, by Pennsylvania until the revolutionary war.

Some of colonial Delaware's religions included Scandinavian Lutherans, Dutch Reformed, English Quakers and Welsh Baptists. Delaware had perhaps the most diverse beginnings of any middle colony. This was because of the religious freedom that Delaware had.

The climate in Delaware was fairly well. They had mild climate, with warm summers and mild winters, most of the middle colonies had this type of climate. This climate was important and helpful for them because this weather made it fairly easier to survive, this type of weather and temperatures also was helpful for growing crops. Colonial Delaware was mostly flat low land. The fertile soil helped the economy excel, it provided them food, crops, and earned them the name “The Breadbasket Colony”. They also share this name with most of the other middle colonies.

Some of the jobs in colonial Delaware were in agriculture, trading of fur and material goods, shipbuilding, fishing, working in grist mills and producing paper products. Most of the women cleaned, cooked, and raised the children, while the men were trusted to do most, if not all, of the manual labor.

The economy in Delaware was first trade with Native Americans in the 1600s, Delaware quickly grew into a manufacturing economy in the 1700s. The iron, grain milling, shipbuilding and lumber industries accounted for a large portion of Delawares money and economy.
