About

I am an experienced Academic Advisor committed to helping students make informed decisions about academic and career goals. I am currently pursing a Masters of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching, TESOL track. I am seeking specialized training and content knowledge for teaching English for speakers of other languages in adult education and community college education.

professional experience

I have 14 years experience in higher education with practical experience advising graduate and undergraduate students as well as in graduate admissions and program management. My personal advising philosophy is to help students make the transition to college life less confusing and more rewarding. I view my role as helping students to explore, discover, collaborate and transform. I tailor my advising goals as follows: 1) help students successfully navigate university policies and procedures, 2) encourage students to explore and discover their strengths and goals, 3) guide students in making informed decisions that will allow them meet their academic and career goals, 4) refer and connect students to resources that will help them fully benefit from their collegiate experience. I am inspired by Dr. Terell Strayhorn’s vision of advisors as cultural navigators and NACADA’s (National Academic Advising Association) advising standards and values. I am particularly passionate about helping first generation and transfer students make the successful transition to higher education.
