Tena koutou katoa Chapel Downs whānau

We have had an amazing term with all of the students and team back. The school is buzzing with learning and school activities. A big thank you to all parents for their continued support of our school. We are very lucky to have such a positive parent community.

The School greatly appreciates the positive community support it has received this year. I am grateful for the way everyone continues to adapt quickly to Covid-19 changes as we bring back a sense of pre Covid normality.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 70 outstanding staff members. They continue to dedicate hours of effort and expertise to ensure the students at Chapel Downs are getting the best teaching and learning experiences possible. I also want to thank them for all the extra activities and experiences they organise for the students on a weekly basis. Most importantly, I thank them for the care they consistently demonstrate towards all the students at Chapel Downs.

Please have a safe and wonderful holiday and we can't wait to welcome you all back for Term 3 on Monday 25th July.

Parent Teacher Interviews

It was wonderful to welcome everyone back to our hall for the parent teacher interviews. 90% of families attended and the team enjoyed sharing student achievements with you all. We look forward to reporting on student progress toward their goals in term 4.

Learning in Action

This term we've focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) across the school. The NanoGirl Labs Scientists ran two assemblies - one for the junior school and one for the senior school at the start of the term. Throughout the school, children were inspired to try their own science and technology experiments.

A big thanks to the Warriors Rugby League team who visited Chapel Downs last week before their amazing win on Sunday. We were honored to be the first school the team had visited on their long awaited return to New Zealand. The senior students all enjoyed learning about healthy nutrition.

This term our specialist teaching programmes in the senior school are in full swing with Miss Toops running our music programme and Miss Agafili running our PE programme. Our senior student have enjoyed improving their balance, agility and flexibly during their gymnastics sessions.

Sports Desk

Well done to our Chapel Downs Champs for giving 100% effort at last months Otara League tournament at Ngati Otara fields. A big thanks to Mrs Ulugia for her brilliant coaching.

Congratulations to our Y6 Netball team on winning the Otara School A Grade Netball Tournament last week. A huge thanks to Mrs Leung-Wai and Mrs Bailey for their super coaching.

Next term we have two teams representing Chapel Downs at the Otara Sports Football tournament.

New Enrollments

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months (born in 2017/2018) please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrollment packs are available at the office or digitally through our website.

Our term three New Parent Information Morning will be held at 9.00am on Wednesday 17 August

Year 6 Tui Ridge Camp 2022

Preparation for the Year 6 camp is well underway and we have had a large number of parents volunteer to help. We are sure that the camp will be a fabulous experience with a variety of different activities on offer for the students. Feel free to have a look at the Tui Ridge website to find out more about what the camp offers our Year 6 students. Only 10 weeks to go! We are super excited to report our Y6 adventure to Tui Ridge just outside of Rotorua will now be held from 12th September to the 14th September.

All you need to know about school attendance at Chapel Downs School

Regularly attending school really matters, right from the first days at primary school to the end of secondary school. Going to school every day is really important if children are to achieve and succeed. As parents and carers, it's up to you to make sure your child attends school every day, from when they first start school until they are 16. Schools, along with you as parents and guardians, are also legally responsible for making sure students attend school.

Importance of attendance

Children and young people need every opportunity to learn and participate in school. Attending school is key to setting our young people up for life, as well as being required by law. If your child is under 16 years old, they must go to school every day, unless they are sick. If a child or young person stops attending school regularly, it becomes harder for them to stay connected to school friends and teachers, and harder to catch up with work they have missed.

If your child/ren is/are going to be away from school, please do one of the following BEFORE 8.55am each morning:

  • report an absence on the Chapel Downs HERO School App.
  • call the school (09 274-8002), press 1 and leave a message on the answer phone.
  • use the Absence submission form on the school website.
