10 outdoor activities EFL teaching

Here are ten activities / tasks that you can use with your students outdoors. It's up to you to decide how you want your students to show the results or solutions to the tasks and whether you want to use digital tools or not.

Colours

How many different things in different colours can you find?

Example: green grass

The person with the most examples is the winner.

Find three pairs of things and compare each pair in three sentences. In the end you will have 9 sentences. You have to use at least 6 different adjectives.

Find at least three things that you can use with superlatives.

People

Find different things that remind you of different people, your family members or your friends. Explain why you associate it with them.

Example:

The yellow flower and my mum because my mum's favourite colour is yellow.

Animals

Find at least three animals. What colour are the animals? Which body parts do they have? What can they do?

Materials

Find things that are made of glass, wood, iron and plastic. You should find at least two things for each material.

Inside out

Find something outside that you can use in a new way inside.

What is it? How can you use it? Do you have to change anything before you can use it inside?

Action plan

Find something that needs to be repaired and explain how it can be done. What do you need? Who can help you?

ABC walk

Memory

Go out and look around.

Come back in 10 minutes.

What did you see? Do you remember the details?

Share the second part of the task (questions) when your students return and if you want you can do it again but this time they know that they have to remember as many things as possible.

Decide how you want your students to present their work. You can use various apps like Padlet, Lino it board or Idea Boardz.
