Lone Mountain Eagle Eye December 19, 2022

Lone Mountain Families,

As cold and flu season is upon us please remember that students must be fever free, vomit, and diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school. If being treated with antibiotics, please also make sure that your child has been on them for 24 hours before returning to school. We want to to keep our students and staff healthy as we go into winter break. Thank you for your support with this.

Please note that this Wednesday, 12/21, is a half day and school releases at 12:30 PM. Monday and Tuesday are regular school days for all elementary students.

I wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season. Our school office will be closed from December 22- January 4th. All staff will return January 5th and we look forward to seeing your child back at school on this day.

Respectfully, Emily Hill

LONE MOUNTAIN NEWS

"SOAR" EXPECTATIONS AT LONE MOUNTAIN

This year we continue with our positive behavior interventions and "SOAR" expectations for students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are character traits that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. When these specific traits are shown staff members can give each student a SOAR card that they label with their name and then drop into a raffle for a monthly prize drawing.

Monthly in addition to our SOAR and Eagle awards here at LMES, we celebrate "Terrific Kids of Character" in a partnership with Kiwanis. This award is a student-recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. “Terrific” is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable. Join me in congratulating Emily, Jamison, Annabelle, Maximus, Sebastian, Anthony, Scarlette, Ava, and Charlotte who were our December winners.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT DAYS AT LMES- 12/6- 12/21

Just a few more days left. We have had so much fun with our spirit days thus far!

LEARNING AT LONE MOUNTAIN

From the classroom to the playground, learning at Lone Mountain is always fun! Enjoy last week's pictures which show our students practicing subtraction in second grade, designing balloon race cars in STEAM, our LMES choir singing at their holiday concert, and our second graders singing their hearts out at a holiday performance. Students also enjoyed a school wide snow day, and our 5th grade wax museum which focused on STEAM inventors and scientists. What a busy week to be an Eagle!

NEWS AROUND THE DISTRICT

SAFETY ALERT

Our police partners alerted us to a rising scam in the area. It is not an uncommon fraud scheme and it has happened recently in nearby districts as well as CCUSD. These types of schemes are usually done to parents or the elderly and state they have their kids/grandkids or that their kids/grandkids have been arrested and need money to be released. We wanted to let our families know for educational reasons:

1. A parent received a call from someone stating they had their child and they needed to send money. They even went as far as to have what sounded like a child's voice in the background encouraging the parent to get the money. The parent thankfully called the school and was able to verify that the student was safe at school.

2. A parent received a phone call that mentioned their daughter had been involved in an accident then mentioned something about taking them down to Mexico with the cartel. The caller appeared to get frustrated with the dad and ended up hanging up on the phone before they asked for money but the father felt like the conversation was headed in that direction.

3. A parent was called recently from an unknown person who stated their child had been kidnapped and would be killed unless they sent money. The parent quickly called the school and verified that the child was safe at school and that this was just an attempt to get money.

Should this happen, please contact your school and allow us to actually lay eyes on your student to assure you that they are where they belong. Then, please follow up with the police department that serves your neighborhood: Phoenix Police, Scottsdale Police or Maricopa County Sheriff. Thank you!
