Artist Statement
My overall approach for this project was to get as close as I could to the subject/individuals, show my culture, and take much more portrait-orientated photographs. For this project, I went online searching for a public event near me that would allow me to get the pictures I wanted. All the photographs shown on this website were taken at Mesa Arts Center, the event was a celebration of the Day of the Dead. The event contained live music, performances, many types of vendors, and face painting. Some challenges I had for this project were getting the perfect amount of light needed for B/W images and getting more practice in using brushes on PS to minimize harsh sunlight. I also realized that people are more than happy to get their photo taken when telling them it is for a school project, which helped me not be nervous.
