Dear Zen Drumming Friends,
The last months have been quite an adventure. I spent the New Year’s on the road. On the cusp of New Year's Eve, I left Bordeaux after a month long stay and drove up to Héricourt and welcomed 2025. On New Year’s Day, I hit the road again for Frankfurt, stopping along the way in Basel. It was definately quite a unique way to end and begin a year, crossing 3 countries in a 3 days span to catch a flight for Japan.
I am now back in Wakayama, my hometown. It’s great to be here and take the time to settle and reset. It was an absolute necessity for me to rest and recharge batteries. Bathing in the healing waters of Tsubaki-Hananoyu in Shirahama - the hot spring famous for its therapeutic properties - in addition to enjoying nourishing food and spending time at the oceanfront nearby, is wonderful. This peaceful routine is incredibly rejuvenating as I review and prepare for what is to follow.
In the next few months. I will be recording a new label that reflects on my practice of Zen Drumming Meditation which I am calling today Listening to Silence and Silence is the Nature of Divinity. Returning to Kumano Kodo, a well-known world-heritage site considered as a sacred pilgrimage route in the Kii mountain ranges, allows me to deepen my experience and bring to life my dreams. Since ancient times, Kumano has been regarded as a land of rebirth, the Land of Yomi or the Underworld. It is believed to purify our soul and bring about complete regeneration. Buddhists also viewed these deep forest mountains as the Pure Land of Amida Buddha and Kannon Bodhisattva, making them a perfect training ground for mastering supernatural abilities.
As many of you know, in April 2019, I travelled across the Eurasia for 5 consecutive years exploring and playing in many different venues and sites across Europe, which proved rich in experiences and new friendships. I am now taking the time to reflect on how to express the vast richness of the experiences and knowledge what I have received these past years. I am curious to see what will emerge, what sensibilities and musicalities will become manifest now.
PRAYERS FOR LA
I’d like to take this moment to express my heartfelt sympathy to all affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles. It is heartbreaking to see the damage caused by the fires. May all impacted communities in California recover and find comfort and solace in these trying moments.
Please know that am deeply grateful to those who have offered their ongoing support and friendship which motivates me every day. May we continue to walk the path and share great moments together. Looking forward to connecting with you again soon, Kenji.
Best Wishes for you and your loved ones and many Zen Drumming Meditations.
